POSITION SUMMARY
Morris College, a member of the NAIA and Continental Athletic Conference (CAC), seeks an energetic, student-centered professional to serve as Head Baseball Coach / Health & Wellness Assistant. This dual-role position is responsible for directing all aspects of the baseball program while assisting with the implementation of health, wellness, injury prevention, and student-athlete support initiatives within the Athletics Department. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, athletic achievement, student-athlete development, wellness education, and the mission of Morris College.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES HEAD BASEBALL COACH RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership Direct all aspects of the Morris College Baseball Program. Organize and supervise practices, games, conditioning sessions, and team activities. Develop and implement training programs designed to maximize athletic performance and player development. Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, discipline, and sportsmanship. Promote the academic and personal growth of student-athletes. Recruiting and Retention Recruit qualified student-athletes who meet institutional academic and athletic standards. Develop and execute a comprehensive recruiting plan. Maintain strong relationships with high school, junior college, and travel baseball coaches. Assist with enrollment and retention efforts. Academic Success Monitor student-athlete academic progress and eligibility. Support student-athletes in achieving graduation and academic success goals. Collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, and support staff. Compliance Ensure compliance with all NAIA, CAC, and Morris College regulations. Maintain required recruiting, eligibility, and compliance records. Complete all departmental reports and certifications in a timely manner. Budget and Operations Manage the baseball operating budget. Coordinate scheduling, travel, lodging, and meals. Maintain inventory and accountability of uniforms and equipment. Supervise assistant coaches and support staff. Fundraising and Community Engagement Assist with fundraising initiatives and donor cultivation. Support the Hornet Booster Club and athletic department special events. Participate in community outreach and alumni engagement activities. Represent Morris College positively at institutional and public events.
HEALTH & WELLNESS ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES
Student-Athlete Health and Wellness Assist in developing and implementing student-athlete wellness initiatives. Promote healthy lifestyle habits, nutrition, hydration, and recovery practices. Coordinate wellness resources and educational opportunities for student-athletes. Assist with monitoring wellness and participation records. Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Assist with implementing injury prevention programs. Coordinate rehabilitation schedules under the direction of licensed healthcare professionals. Support wellness screenings and recovery programs. Health Education Programming Nutrition Hydration Recovery Techniques Mental Wellness Injury Prevention Healthy Lifestyle Practices Department Support Assist with game-day preparations. Assist with emergency action planning and implementation. Support departmental health and safety initiatives. Collaborate with coaches and staff to promote student-athlete well-being.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. 5 years Collegiate baseball coaching and/or playing experience. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Knowledge of student-athlete wellness and injury prevention principles. Valid driver's license and ability to travel. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree. Collegiate coaching experience. CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification. Experience in athletic training, kinesiology, exercise science, health promotion, or related field. Knowledge of NAIA rules and eligibility procedures. Experience working at an HBCU or small-college environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to demonstrate athletic skills and conduct practices. Ability to lift and move athletic equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to travel extensively with athletic teams. Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends.
