In this role, you'll help children and participants of all ages develop swimming skills, water safety awareness, and confidence in the water - all while creating a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment. Whether you have previous teaching experience or simply enjoy working with people and have strong swimming skills, we encourage you to apply. Position Responsibilities Lead swim lessons in accordance with YMCA aquatic safety standards and program guidelines Teach swimming techniques and water safety skills to participants of varying ages and abilities Create a positive, patient, and engaging learning environment Maintain active supervision and prioritize participant safety at all times Build positive relationships with swimmers, parents, members, and fellow staff Complete attendance, progress reports, and incident documentation accurately Assist with maintaining pool cleanliness, equipment organization, and aquatic safety standards Perform routine pool testing and communicate concerns to Aquatics leadership Support a welcoming and inclusive YMCA environment for all participants Qualifications Comfortable working in and around water Strong communication and interpersonal skills Positive attitude and ability to work with children and families Reliable, attentive, and safety-focused Previous swim instruction, coaching, or aquatic experience preferred but not required Ability to follow YMCA policies, procedures, and training standards Why Work at the YMCA of the Black Hills?
