Position Summary
The Head Gymnastics Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the high school gymnastics program. This includes planning and conducting practices, developing student-athletes' skills, fostering sportsmanship and character development, ensuring participant safety, and overseeing team operations. The Head Coach serves as a positive role model and promotes a culture of excellence, integrity, teamwork, and academic success.
Education/Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous gymnastics coaching experience.
Knowledge of gymnastics techniques, rules, and safety standards.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
Successful completion of background check and district employment requirements.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, Education, or a related field.
Experience coaching competitive gymnastics at the high school, club, or collegiate level.
Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
Certification through recognized gymnastics coaching organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes.
Strong understanding of athlete development and injury prevention.
Effective conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership
Develop and implement a comprehensive gymnastics program aligned with school and athletic department goals.
Establish team expectations, standards, and objectives.
Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and respect among student-athletes.
Serve as an ambassador for the gymnastics program within the school and community.
Coaching and Athlete Development
Plan, organize, and conduct safe and effective practices.
Teach and develop gymnastics skills, techniques, and routines appropriate to athletes' experience levels.
Evaluate athlete performance and provide constructive feedback.
Prepare athletes physically and mentally for competitions.
Monitor athlete progress and support individual development goals.
Competition Management
Coordinate team participation in meets and competitions.
Develop competition lineups and routines.
Ensure athletes comply with competition rules and regulations.
Provide supervision and leadership during all competitions and team travel.
Safety and Risk Management
Maintain a safe training environment at all times.
Enforce proper use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
Monitor athlete health and wellness and respond appropriately to injuries.
Maintain current certifications required by the school or governing athletic organizations.
Program Administration
Manage inventory, maintenance, and care of gymnastics equipment.
Coordinate budget allocations and equipment purchases.
Complete required reports, eligibility documentation, and administrative paperwork.
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, school administrators, and athletic staff.
Attend coaches' meetings, athletic department meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Supervision
Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches and volunteers as assigned.
Ensure all coaching staff comply with school district policies and athletic regulations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to demonstrate gymnastics techniques when appropriate.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, spot athletes, and move equipment.
Ability to work in gymnasium environments for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
Indoor gymnasium and athletic facility environments.
Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required during the season.
Travel to competitions and athletic events.
