Competitive & Recreational Gymnastics About Northstar Athletics Northstar Athletics is dedicated to developing strong, confident athletes through quality coaching, positive mentorship, and a culture built on hard work, accountability, and personal growth. We believe success is measured not only by medals and scores but by the character and confidence athletes develop along the way. We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and athlete-focused Assistant Competitive Gymnastics Coach to help develop athletes within our Women's Artistic Gymnastics program. This individual will work closely with the Head Coach to support training, skill progression, competition preparation, and athlete development. Position Summary The Assistant Competitive Gymnastics Coach plays a critical role in the day-to-day training and development of competitive athletes. This position assists with practice planning, skill instruction, spotting, conditioning, athlete evaluations, and meet preparation while helping maintain a safe, positive, and encouraging training environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about gymnastics, enjoys working with children and athletes, and is committed to helping athletes achieve their goals. Key ResponsibilitiesAthlete Development Assist in coaching competitive gymnastics athletes at assigned levels. Teach proper technique, body positions, strength development, flexibility, and skill progressions. Support athlete development on all four Women's Artistic Gymnastics events: Vault Uneven Bars Balance Beam Floor Exercise Assist with drills, conditioning, and mobility programs. Provide consistent corrections and positive reinforcement. Practice Support Assist in planning and executing daily workouts. Set up and break down equipment as needed. Help maintain an organized and productive training environment. Ensure athletes remain engaged, focused, and progressing throughout practice. Safety & Risk Management Maintain a safe training environment at all times. Spot athletes appropriately and within certification guidelines. Follow all gym safety policies and procedures. Report equipment concerns, injuries, or facility issues promptly. Assist with emergency response procedures when necessary. Competition Preparation Help prepare athletes for competitions and evaluations. Assist with routine development and skill refinement. Attend competitions, meets, showcases, and gym events as assigned. Support athletes during competition warm-ups and performance sessions. Parent & Athlete Communication Foster positive relationships with athletes and families. Communicate professionally with parents regarding athlete progress when appropriate. Support the gym's culture of encouragement, accountability, and respect. Team Culture Serve as a positive role model for athletes. Promote sportsmanship, confidence, perseverance, and teamwork. Help create a fun, challenging, and motivating atmosphere. QualificationsRequired Previous gymnastics coaching experience or competitive gymnastics background. Strong understanding of gymnastics fundamentals and skill progressions. Ability to work effectively with children and athletes of varying ages and skill levels. Positive attitude and strong communication skills. Reliable transportation and availability during evenings and weekends. Preferred USAG Professional Membership. USAG Safety Certification. SafeSport Certification. CPR and First Aid Certification. Experience coaching developmental, Xcel, or DP athletes. Spotting experience on bars, beam, floor, and vault.
