March 2026 POSITION SUMMARY La Joya ISD seeks a dependable and committed Assistant Girls Track Coach to support the Head Girls Track Coach in the organization, supervision, safety, and development of the girls track program at La Joya High School. This position is intended for a current staff member who will assist with coaching responsibilities while supporting the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes. The Assistant Girls Track Coach will help teach track and field fundamentals, promote discipline and teamwork, assist with practices and meets, and support the overall vision and expectations established by the Head Coach, campus administration, and La Joya ISD Athletic Department.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the Head Girls Track Coach in implementing the La Joya High School girls track program. Assist with daily practices, event-specific skill development, conditioning, strength training, and meet preparation. Help teach track and field fundamentals, including sprint mechanics, distance pacing, relay exchanges, starts, hurdles, jumps, throws, flexibility, recovery, and race strategy. Support student-athlete development in speed, endurance, strength, technique, discipline, confidence, and competitive readiness. Assist with warm-ups, cool-downs, stretching, mobility, recovery routines, and practice organization. Help monitor student-athlete attendance, effort, behavior, academic progress, and UIL eligibility. Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, meets, travel, offseason workouts, and team activities. Assist with meet preparation, event entries, relay assignments, equipment, uniforms, timing, field event support, transportation, and team organization. Reinforce program expectations established by the Head Girls Track Coach. Promote discipline, teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, effort, and pride in La Joya High School and La Joya ISD. Maintain positive and professional communication with students, parents, staff, and coaches. Support campus and district athletic department expectations.
TRACK PROGRAM SUPPORT
Assist in developing proper track and field technique and event understanding. Help student-athletes improve running form, starts, acceleration, speed, endurance, pacing, jumping technique, throwing technique, relay exchanges, hurdle technique, and competitive preparation. Support beginner and developing athletes through patient instruction, repetition, correction, and encouragement. Reinforce safe training habits, proper use of equipment, hydration, recovery, and respect for officials, opponents, teammates, and coaches. Assist with equipment management, including blocks, batons, hurdles, cones, measuring tapes, throwing implements, jump equipment, uniforms, first-aid supplies, and team materials. Support student-athletes with goal setting, event understanding, meet preparation, and team expectations. Assist with tracking attendance, performance, times, distances, academic eligibility, and athlete development. Support team-building activities and student leadership within the program. Encourage participation, commitment, and year-round athletic development when applicable. Support middle school and feeder program alignment as directed by the Head Girls Track Coach.
COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY
Maintain current CPR, AED, First Aid, concussion, heat illness, and UIL-required certifications. Follow all UIL, TEA, district, campus, and athletic department policies. Ensure student-athletes are supervised at all times during practices, meets, workouts, and travel. Monitor track and field event safety, hydration, weather conditions, equipment condition, and student well-being. Report injuries, incidents, safety concerns, or discipline issues to the Head Coach and Athletic Coordinator in a timely manner. Follow emergency action procedures and district safety expectations. Maintain professional boundaries with student-athletes at all times. Promote safe, age-appropriate track and field development and discourage unsafe training practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Current La Joya ISD employee preferred. Valid Texas Teaching Certificate or appropriate employment status with the district. Knowledge of track and field fundamentals preferred. Coaching experience preferred but not required. Ability to work under the direction of the Head Girls Track Coach. Strong communication, organization, and supervision skills. Commitment to student safety, academic success, and athletic development.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands Maintain emotional control under stress. Communicate effectively with students, parents, coaches, and staff. Follow directions and support the Head Coach's program expectations. Monitor student safety and make sound decisions during practices, meets, workouts, and travel. Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, jogging, bending, lifting, demonstrating technique, and movement during practices and meets. Ability to assist with track and field drills, conditioning, equipment setup, and event organization. Exposure to outdoor environments, heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and athletic facilities. Extended hours including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, meets, invitationals, district competition, playoffs, and travel.
