WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a dedicated and inspiring high school teacher with experience in basketball coaching to serve as the Boys Basketball Coach at Palmview High School. The ideal candidate will be a student-centered educator and a disciplined leader who demonstrates La Joya ISD's core values—Integrity, Accountability, Leadership, High-Quality Instruction, and Service.
This dual-role educator-coach will:
Provide high-impact classroom instruction aligned with La Joya ISD academic priorities Lead all aspects of the boys basketball program, including coaching, team development, and program management Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, fostering discipline, academic success, and sportsmanship Represent Palmview High and La Joya ISD with pride, professionalism, and competitive excellence

Qualifications Education/ Certification Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (required) Valid Texas teaching certificate in any secondary content area (required) Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements (preferred for team transportation) CPR/First Aid/AED certification and completion of UIL-required safety trainings (must be current or obtained prior to start of coaching duties)
Experience:
Experience teaching at the high school level Prior coaching experience in basketball required; head coaching experience preferred Strong understanding of basketball systems, fundamentals, and competitive strategy Ability to build a vertically aligned program from sub-varsity through varsity Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to motivate athletes and coaching staff Experience with UIL compliance, player eligibility tracking, and offseason program development Alignment with
La Joya ISD's Athletic Handbook, Coaching Expectations, and Code of Ethics Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional - High School Teacher Plan and deliver rigorous, TEKS-aligned instruction using La Joya ISD-approved curriculum and systems (e.g., DMAC) Support the academic growth of all students, including ELLs, special education, and at-risk populations Actively participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), district trainings, and campus planning sessions Engage families and student support services in addressing academic and behavioral needs Promote college, career, and military readiness through daily instruction Athletic - Boys Basketball Coach Design, coordinate, and implement all aspects of the boys basketball program, including practice plans, in-game coaching, and skill development Establish a program culture built on accountability, teamwork, and character Supervise and mentor assistant coaches; assign responsibilities and promote continuous improvement Conduct film review, game preparation, and scouting of opponents Develop and manage offseason conditioning programs and summer workouts in alignment with district guidelines Monitor student-athlete academic progress through Skyward and coordinate support with classroom teachers Serve as a visible and active leader during practices, games, community events, and athletic meetings Promote a strong feeder program in collaboration with middle school coaches and staff Other Duties Perform additional duties as assigned by campus administration or athletic department Adhere to all La Joya ISD board policies, procedures, and administrative regulations
Compensation Teacher Salary:
Based on the La Joya ISD Teacher Pay Scale, determined by verified years of experience and certifications
Coaching Stipend:
Annual stipend per the La Joya ISD Athletics Stipend Schedule (Head Coach - Boys Basketball)
Working Conditions Physical Demands:
Must be able to supervise athletic practices, demonstrate drills, and travel with student-athletes Physical stamina required for extended hours during game days, tournaments, and training periods
Work Environment:
Classroom, gymnasium, and athletic facilities Evening and weekend duties expected, especially during basketball season Regular contact with students, parents, coaching staff, and community members Note The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees in this role.
