Basketball Trainer / Player Development Coach Salt Lake Academy -

Competitive and commensurate with experience Position Overview Salt Lake Academy (SLA) is seeking an energetic, knowledgeable, and student-centered Basketball Trainer / Player Development Coach to support the continued growth of our basketball development programs. This position is primarily housed at the Primary and Middle School campuses and focuses on the daily technical, tactical, intellectual, physical, and resilience development of student-athletes. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching and mentoring young athletes while helping establish a positive, disciplined, and development-focused basketball culture throughout the academy. Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to connect with students of varying ages and ability levels. This role includes responsibility for player recruitment and development, creation and management of competitive teams, and coaching within local basketball leagues, including charter league competition. The selected candidate may also have opportunities to assist or serve on the coaching staff at the high school level. Primary Responsibilities Provide daily basketball instruction and player development training for elementary and middle school students Design and implement age-appropriate technical skill development sessions, including shooting, ball handling, passing, footwork, spacing, and defensive concepts Teach tactical basketball concepts, game IQ, teamwork, leadership, discipline, and resilience Support the physical, intellectual, and character development of student-athletes in a positive and structured environment Assist in the recruitment, enrollment support, and retention of student-athletes and families interested in the academy's basketball programs Organize, develop, and manage school-affiliated basketball teams competing in local leagues, including charter league competition and developmental programs Coach and supervise teams during practices, games, tournaments, camps, and school-sponsored events Evaluate player growth and provide individualized feedback and mentorship to athletes and families Collaborate with school leadership and athletic staff to develop long-term basketball programming and player pathways Promote sportsmanship, academic accountability, teamwork, and school pride Ensure compliance with all school policies, league regulations, and safety procedures Serve as a positive role model who reflects the mission, values, and standards of Salt Lake Academy Assist with high school basketball programs and coaching responsibilities as assigned Preferred Qualifications Previous basketball coaching, training, or player development experience with youth, middle school, high school, AAU, club, or academy programs Strong understanding of modern basketball development principles, skill progression, and team concepts Demonstrated ability to motivate, teach, and mentor student-athletes Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented educational environment Experience organizing teams, camps, clinics, or competitive developmental programs is highly desirable Background in strength and conditioning, sports psychology, or athletic performance training is beneficial but not required About Salt Lake Academy Salt Lake Academy is a public charter school located in Herriman, Utah, serving approximately 900 students in grades
