Competitive and commensurate with experience Position Overview Salt Lake Academy (SLA) is seeking a highly motivated, knowledgeable, and student-centered Strength & Conditioning / Speed and Agility Performance Coach to support the continued development of student-athletes across the academy's middle school and high school athletic programs. This position will work directly with athletes participating in soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field, and other athletic programs to improve athletic performance, injury prevention, movement efficiency, resilience, leadership, and overall physical wellness. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in modern athletic performance methodologies while fostering a culture of accountability, confidence, discipline, and long-term student-athlete development. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with coaches, athletic staff, families, and school leadership to design and implement comprehensive training systems that measurably improve student-athlete performance while promoting healthy and safe athletic participation. In addition to athletic performance responsibilities, this position will include classroom instruction, student assessment, and development of individualized and group athletic growth plans aligned with recognized national standards in physical performance and athlete development. Primary Responsibilities Design and implement age-appropriate strength and conditioning programs for middle school and high school student-athletes Lead daily speed, agility, mobility, flexibility, conditioning, and injury-prevention training sessions Provide classroom instruction related to athletic performance, leadership development, resilience, wellness, sports science, nutrition, recovery, injury prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices Develop individualized and team-based athletic performance plans aligned with sport-specific needs and developmental goals Create structured systems for tracking and measuring student-athlete growth, improvement, and achievement toward recognized national athletic and fitness standards Maintain measurable performance data and provide regular progress reporting for students, families, coaches, and school leadership Support athletes participating in soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field, and additional athletic programs Assist student-athletes in improving strength, speed, explosiveness, endurance, coordination, movement quality, and recovery Promote proper training techniques, nutrition awareness, hydration, recovery practices, sleep habits, and overall athlete wellness Collaborate with coaches and athletic staff to coordinate in-season, off-season, and return-to-play programming Support injured athletes through safe rehabilitation progressions and assist with return-to-play readiness under appropriate medical guidance Develop and lead leadership, resilience, accountability, and mental-performance initiatives for student-athletes Evaluate and monitor student-athlete progress using measurable performance indicators and evidence-based assessment tools Maintain a safe, positive, structured, and motivating training environment Ensure proper use, maintenance, and supervision of fitness and athletic performance equipment Promote sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and academic accountability throughout all athletic programs Participate in athletic department meetings, camps, clinics, school events, and community engagement activities as assigned Serve as a positive role model who reflects the mission, values, and standards of Salt Lake Academy Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, Athletic Training, Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field preferred Previous experience in strength and conditioning, athletic performance training, sports performance coaching, teaching, or athlete development Experience working with middle school and/or high school student-athletes preferred Current strength and conditioning certifications strongly preferred, including but not limited to:NSCA-CSCS NASM-PES USAW
CSCCa Speed and agility or sports performance certifications CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred Strong understanding of biomechanics, speed development, injury prevention, recovery, and long-term athlete development models Experience designing measurable student assessment systems and performance tracking tools preferred Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and motivational skills Ability to build positive relationships with students, coaches, families, and staff Commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes both athletically and personally About Salt Lake Academy Salt Lake Academy is a public charter school located in Herriman, Utah, serving approximately 900 students in gradesK-12.
