Job Description

The Lake Braddock High School Crew Team ("Bruin Crew"), located in Burke, VA is accepting applications for Crew Team Coaching Staff positions for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic coach with a proven track record of working with high-school athletes to form a competitive but supportive team environment. Who We Are The Lake Braddock Crew team consists of approximately 100 athletes (both men and women). We are a vibrant, competitive program within the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association (VASRA) and aligned with Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Student Activities. What You'll Do As a member of our Coaching Staff, you'll help shape the next generation of Bruin rowers and make a real impact. Here's what you can expect: Plan and run daily practices : Work with the Bruin Crew Head Coaches and the Coaching Staff to create safe, effective training sessions.
Teach rowing skills:
Share your knowledge of technique, racing strategy, and teamwork.
Supervise and mentor:
Guide student-athletes during practices, races, and team events.
Collaborate:
Help with athlete development, lineup selection, and season planning.
Promote Safety and Compliance:
Make sure we're following all FCPS, VASRA, and USRowing rules. Care for

  • Positive, inclusive attitude focused on student growth
  • Previous coaching experience in competitive athletics
  • Rowing experience (as a rower, coxswain, or coach)
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including with student athletes, Coaching Staff, and Bruin Crew Board of Directors

  • Completion of FCPS required background check (required before any contact with student athletes)
  • Completion of US SafeSport training (required before any contact with student athletes)
  • Completion of US Rowing Level I Certification (required before on-water practices begin) Preferred Qualifications
  • High School or Collegiate-level rowing experience
  • Experience working with a coaching staff consisting of Head Coaches, Coaches, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, & Coxswain coaches
  • Experience with planning season-long training programs
  • Experience and skill in evaluating student athletes performance and making regatta lineup decisions
  • Ability to assist the Head Coaches and Board of Directors to coordinate VASRA and FCPS required documentation and procedures, as needed/requested
  • Familiarity with
VASRA, US
Rowing, and SRAA Rowing rules
  • Success in developing novice athletes into varsity rowers
  • Interest in advancing personal coaching education and skill level / certifications
  • Experience with maintaining our equipment: ○ Vespoli and Hudson racing shells ○ Concept2 Rowing Ergometer ("Ergs") machines ○ Coach launch boats and outboard motors (9.
9HP engines) ○ Trailer loading and proper storage of shells
Salary Range:
Part-time position. $4,000 to $12,000 per season, depending on the specific position offered, coaching experience, qualifications, and assigned responsibilities OK I'm in!
