Part-Time We understand that our instructors have school, families, other jobs, and commitments. Available hours will depend on both program needs and the instructor's availability. What You'll Do Dolphin Swims instructors teach children water safety and swimming skills using the nationally recognized SwimAmerica learn-to-swim program.
Responsibilities include:
Teach small-group swim lessons Help children become comfortable and confident in the water Teach progressive swimming and water-safety skills Evaluate swimmers and help them progress through SwimAmerica stations Create a positive, encouraging, and fun learning environment Communicate professionally with families and other staff Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled lessons Follow Dolphin Swims, SwimAmerica, and facility safety procedures Participate in required training and professional development No Teaching Experience? We'll Train You! One of the best parts of this position is that you do not need to already be a certified swim instructor. Dolphin Swims will provide the training needed to teach within our SwimAmerica program, and required training is paid . You'll learn how to: Teach swimming skills using a progression-based approach Work effectively with different ages and ability levels Manage a swim lesson group Evaluate swimmer skills and advancement Provide clear and positive instruction Maintain a safe and productive lesson environment New instructors will also have the opportunity to learn alongside experienced members of our team before working independently. What We're Looking For Successful candidates should be: Dependable and punctual Comfortable working with children Positive, patient, and encouraging Comfortable working in and around the water Able to communicate professionally with children, parents, and coworkers Willing to learn and participate in training Able to work as part of a team Available for consistent afternoon and/or evening shifts Previous swimming, teaching, coaching, childcare, camp, recreation, or aquatics experience is helpful but not required . Especially Needed in Williamsburg! Our greatest current need is for instructors who can work at our Williamsburg location . Applicants interested in Williamsburg may have opportunities for additional hours depending on availability and program enrollment. We also have opportunities available at our Newport News locations , and candidates who are able to work at more than one location are encouraged to let us know. A Great Fit for Teachers Already spend your day working with kids? This can be a great way to earn additional income after school while using many of the skills you already have. Teachers are often excellent swim instructors because they already understand how to communicate, manage groups, encourage children, and adapt instruction to different learning styles. We'll teach you the swimming-specific curriculum and skills. A Great Fit for College Students Looking for a part-time job that actually works with a college schedule? Evening lesson hours and flexible weekly scheduling can make Dolphin Swims a great option for students. You'll also gain valuable experience working with children, teaching, communicating with families, and being part of a professional team. Students studying education, kinesiology, exercise science, recreation, child development, psychology, sports management, or related fields may find the experience especially valuable—but students from all majors are welcome to apply . About Dolphin Swims Dolphin Swims provides learn-to-swim programming using the SwimAmerica curriculum. Our goal is to help children become safer, more confident, and more capable swimmers through progressive, high-quality instruction. For some children, swim lessons are the beginning of a lifelong love of swimming. For every child, learning how to be safer and more confident around water is an important life skill. Our instructors get to be part of that process.
