The SPU Women's Volleyball program is committed to developing student-athletes through high-level coaching, intentional mentoring, and meaningful instruction both on and off the court. The program emphasizes competitive excellence, leadership development, teamwork, discipline, and personal growth within a Christ-centered learning environment. What We Need Seattle Pacific University is seeking an Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach to support all aspects of the women's volleyball program, including recruiting, instruction, player development, practice planning, scouting, operations, and student-athlete mentoring. This position serves an important instructional and developmental role within the athletics program. The Assistant Coach will help teach technical volleyball skills, reinforce team systems and strategies, and contribute to the overall educational and developmental experience of student-athletes. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to cultivate a positive team culture focused on athletic excellence, academic success, leadership development, spiritual formation, and holistic student growth. What You'll Do Teaching, Coaching & Student-Athlete Development Assist in planning and conducting team practices, instructional sessions, individual workouts, and skill development opportunities Teach volleyball fundamentals, position-specific techniques, team systems, and competitive strategies Provide individualized instruction and feedback that supports student-athlete learning, performance, and development Mentor student-athletes in areas such as leadership, teamwork, communication, accountability, and personal growth Assist with game preparation and provide instructional coaching during practices and competition Recruiting & Relationship Building Assist in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student-athletes who align with SPU's mission, academic expectations, and volleyball program goals Build relationships with prospective students, families, club coaches, and high school programs Support recruiting communication, evaluations, campus visits, and recruiting administration Represent SPU and the volleyball program with professionalism, enthusiasm, and integrity Scouting, Strategy & Program Operations Assist with opponent scouting, film exchange, match preparation, and game coordination Help develop scouting reports and instructional materials that support team preparation and student-athlete learning Maintain scouting files, video resources, and related program information Assist with equipment, gear, and uniform inventory, ordering, and organization Support operational and administrative needs related to team travel, scheduling, and program coordination Student Support & Team Culture Promote student-athlete welfare, academic achievement, and personal development Foster a positive and educational team environment grounded in sportsmanship, accountability, and mutual respect Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes while supporting the spiritual, social, and emotional development of team members Compliance & Collaboration Maintain knowledge of and comply with all NCAA, conference, and university policies and regulations Successfully complete NCAA coaches certification requirements and ongoing compliance education Collaborate with Athletics staff and campus partners to support the overall student-athlete experience What You Bring Bachelor's degree Collegiate volleyball playing and/or coaching experience preferred Demonstrated ability to teach and develop volleyball skills and strategies in an instructional setting Strong understanding of volleyball fundamentals, player development, and competitive systems Ability to mentor, motivate, and positively develop college student-athletes Strong interpersonal, communication, teaching, and organizational skills Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment Commitment to student-athlete development, academic success, and holistic education Knowledge of or willingness to learn NCAA Division II rules and compliance expectations Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, travel schedules, and irregular hours during the competitive season

Compensation & Position Details Assistant Coach, Women's Volleyball Status:
Full-time, exempt, 10-month position, typical annual appointment, August 1 - June 1
Department:
Athletics Annual salary: Starts at $44,000 DOE This category of employment recognizes the unique instructional, mentoring, and seasonal demands associated with coaching an intercollegiate sport. Employees in this category serve in a student development and teaching capacity and are expected to provide ongoing instruction, coaching, mentoring, supervision, and program support throughout the academic year and competitive season. The position operates on an irregular and seasonal schedule. During the applicable sports season, recruiting periods, instructional periods, and other high-demand times, work responsibilities will regularly exceed a standard workweek. During less demanding periods, work schedules may fluctuate based on program needs and seasonal responsibilities. It is also understood and agreed that there will be designated periods during which the employee will remain available with reasonable notice for meetings, recruiting communication, planning activities, and electronic consultation, but may not be scheduled for regular day-to-day work activities. During these periods, employees in this category may be permitted to accept additional compensated employment with SPU or outside organizations, consistent with university policy.
Benefits:
SPU pays employee premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance; provides HSA/HRA contributions; contributes 7% to a retirement account with immediate vesting (as eligible); and offers a tuition discount program for employees and qualified dependents.
