Job Description

Shepherd University seeks an Assistant Women's Volleyball coach to join our team. The Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach will support all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division II women's volleyball program, with a primary emphasis on teaching, instruction, and student-athlete development. This role is primarily focused on on-court and off-court instruction, including skill development, volleyball fundamentals, conditioning, strategy education, and the overall educational and athletic advancement of student-athletes within the program.
Job Duties:
Teaching, Instruction, and Student-Athlete Development:
  • Plan and deliver structured practice sessions focused on volleyball fundamentals, skill development, positional instruction, offensive and defensive systems, and team concepts
  • Provide individualized and team-based instruction to enhance player performance, volleyball IQ, conditioning, and sport-specific competencies
  • Teach and reinforce strength, conditioning, recovery, and injury prevention techniques in collaboration with performance staff
  • Assist with practice planning, match preparation, opponent scouting, and scouting reports to prepare student-athletes for competition
  • Conduct video analysis sessions as an instructional tool for player development, film study, and learning
  • Educate student-athletes on offensive and defensive strategies, opponent tendencies, situational concepts, and decision-making
  • Provide ongoing feedback, evaluation, and mentoring to support student-athlete growth and performance outcomes
  • Provide in-match coaching and strategy implementation
  • Monitor and support student-athlete academic progress, including meetings and tracking to ensure eligibility and progress toward graduation
  • Promote a positive team culture aligned with the values and mission of Shepherd University and the
Department of Athletics Coaching & Program Operations:
  • Recruit qualified student-athletes in accordance with NCAA Division II rules and institutional policies
  • Coordinate and assist with team travel planning and logistics
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to NCAA, PSAC, and institutional rules and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Women's Volleyball Coach and Director of Athletics This position requires a strong commitment to student-athlete development, academic success, compliance, and recruiting.
The assistant coach will help conduct all aspects of the program within the philosophy and guidelines set forth by Shepherd University, the NCAA, and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
  • Prior collegiate coaching experience
  • Recruiting experience at the NCAA level
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations (Division II preferred)
  • Background in teaching, kinesiology, exercise science, sport coaching, or related field preferred
