College of Arts and Sciences Job Description The Department of Communication Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is searching for a full-time, temporary, non-tenure track assistant professor, beginning August 2026. This is a one-year temporary position with health benefits. The teaching load is eight courses per year over two semesters (4/4). We seek applicants who demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence in a range of courses. Areas of teaching include a sequence of Public Relations courses including Intro to Public Relations, Public Relations Methods, Public Relations Principles, and Public Relations Campaigns, along with courses in related areas such as Ethics and Leadership. Additional courses may include subjects in Advertising, Media, Sports PR, and Social Media, depending on the expertise of the applicant. The format of classes includes both in-person and online courses. The department also has an award-winning chapter of PRCA/PRSSA, so the preferred candidate may be involved with the student organization. Required Qualifications The successful applicant must have a terminal degree in Public Relations, Communication, Media, or a closely related discipline by August 15, 2026.
