Position Overview:
Talladega College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Elementary Education . The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of the Elementary Education program by teaching, mentoring students, and contributing to the ongoing development of curriculum and instruction. This faculty position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, and service, with a particular focus on preparing future educators for success in diverse and inclusive educational settings.
Specific Qualifications:

Education :
A Master's or Doctoral degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered, but completion of the Ph.D. is required before appointment). Applicants' credentials must be approved by the Alabama Department of Education. •
Experience :
o A demonstrated record of effective teaching at the undergraduate level, preferably in elementary education or a related field. o A proven track record of research and scholarly activity related to elementary education or teacher preparation. o Prior experience teaching in K-6 classrooms is highly preferred. o Previous leadership or administrative experience, such as program coordination, is a plus. •

Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor in Elementary Education will be responsible for the following key areas:
Teaching and Mentoring :
o Teach undergraduate courses in elementary education, including foundational courses in child development, curriculum design, literacy, mathematics instruction, and classroom management. o Mentor and advise students pursuing a degree in elementary education, guiding them through their academic and professional development. o Supervise and evaluate student teaching experiences and internships in K-6 classrooms. o Develop and update course materials and curricula to reflect current trends and best practices in elementary education.
Research and Scholarly Activity :
o Maintain an active research agenda in the field of elementary education or teacher preparation, with an emphasis on improving educational practices or addressing current issues in K-12 education. o Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences. o Collaborate with faculty on research initiatives that support the mission of the department.
Curriculum and Program Development :
o Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the Elementary Education program, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, state guidelines, and the needs of students. o Engage in curriculum revisions to reflect contemporary educational practices and ensure the program prepares students for success in diverse classroom settings. o Participate in the assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes.
Service and Outreach :
o Participate in departmental, college-wide, and university committees and initiatives. o Build relationships with local schools and school districts to create opportunities for student internships, partnerships, and community outreach. o Promote the mission and vision of the Elementary Education program both within the college and in the broader community.
Student Recruitment and Retention :
o Assist with recruiting and retaining students in the Elementary Education program by participating in college fairs, recruitment events, and outreach activities. o Develop and implement strategies to improve student success, retention, and graduation rates within the program.
Professional Development :
o Stay current with trends, research, and developments in elementary education and teacher preparation. o Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices, research skills, and leadership abilities.
