ASU FIDM
invites applications for Faculty Associates to teach undergraduate courses in Fashion and/or Costume Design at the Downtown Phoenix & ASU California Center (Los Angeles) locations, and through online instruction. We are seeking Faculty Associates with a wide range of skills and expertise in fashion and/or costume design. Areas of specialization may include apparel construction, patternmaking, illustration, accessories, textiles, fashion styling, or merchandising. Experience across the design process from concept development to production is valued, including work in sectors such as luxury, mass-market, or sustainable fashion. Ideal candidates bring current industry insight and a commitment to engaging students in both the creative and technical aspects of design. These positions are one semester appointments, part time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical Faculty Associate course load is one to two classes per semester.
Teaching duties include:
preparing course materials, responding to and evaluating student work, and availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes). The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Individuals hired as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University . Faculty Associate assignments are paid $1500 per credit hour over the length of the session.

Qualifications Essential Functions:
The successful candidate(s) will teach in-person or online courses, prepare course materials, evaluate student work, and assist students. They are responsible for delivering course content through lectures, readings, discussions, and other teaching activities in accordance with the approved syllabus and academic standards. Faculty Associates foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment, support student success, and provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and assessments. They maintain instructor presence, communicate effectively and responsively with students, staff, and faculty, and keep accurate course records in compliance with university policies. Faculty Associates are expected to be familiar with and adhere to ASU, Herberger Institute for the Design and the Arts, and School policies and procedures, collaborate professionally with colleagues, and continuously improve their instructional skills while staying informed about developments in their field.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 2 years of industry experience.
