Position:
The Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Management at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Civil Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor The successful candidate will teach Civil Engineering courses, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and have research interests in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering or a related field. The successful candidate will be required to provide advisement to undergraduates and supervision of graduate students. Active and effective participation in curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation, and other departmental activities are required. Participation in professional student organizations may be required. In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN's commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. ABD (All But Dissertation) candidates will be considered but must complete the doctoral degree by August 19, 2027. B.S. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. Teaching experience or strong potential to teach Civil Engineering related courses at the College/University level, in-person, and/or online. Published at least 3 papers in non-predatory peer-reviewed conferences or journals within the last 3 years. Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body. Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students. Experience creating a student-centered learning environment. Research/Lab experience that includes working with students from diverse backgrounds. Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring. Industry experience in civil engineering. Industry experience preferably in Geotechnical Engineering. Professional licensure (P.E.) preferred but not required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching courses in civil engineering, preferably geotechnical engineering courses (e.g., soil mechanics, foundation engineering). Demonstrated ability to conduct research in the field of civil engineering, preferably geotechnical engineering, in research statement. Participation in grant proposal preparation, either as PI or Co-PI. Specialization in Geotechnical Engineering, as evidenced by graduate degree emphasis or research.
