Los Angeles, CA Job Details Full-time | Non-tenure $115,000 - $125,000 a year 2 hours ago Qualifications Collaborative research Spectroscopic analysis Mass spectrometers (MS) Full Job Description The Department of Immunology and Immune Therapeutics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California invites applicants for a full-time non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Research position in the field of immunometabolism. We seek an outstanding scientist with deep expertise in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and to support and advance a highly collaborative immunometabolism research community. The successful candidate will provide scientific leadership in the application and development of state-of-the-art metabolomic technologies to investigate cellular and tissue metabolism in the context of immune responses. This position will play a central role in supporting faculty studying immunometabolism across diverse biological systems, including sterile inflammation, cancer, infectious diseases, and other immune-mediated disorders.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will:
Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of mass spectrometry-based metabolomic and lipidomic workflows for cellular and tissue analyses. Collaborate with investigators across the department to design, execute, and interpret metabolomic studies that address fundamental questions in immunometabolism. Develop and apply advanced analytical approaches for metabolic flux analysis, including stable isotope tracer experiments and quantitative interpretation of isotopic labeling data. Integrate metabolomic and lipidomic datasets with complementary multiomic platforms to generate mechanistic insights into immune cell fate and function. Provide expertise in experimental design, quality control, data analysis, and interpretation for collaborative research projects. Participate in the development of new methodologies and technologies that enhance the department's metabolomics capabilities. Contribute to grant applications, collaborative publications, and the training of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff in metabolomics methodologies. Required Qualifications Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, metabolism, immunology, systems biology, or a related discipline. Demonstrated expertise in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and/or lipidomics. Experience developing and implementing quantitative workflows for metabolic profiling of cells and tissues. Strong record of collaborative research and scholarly productivity. Preferred Qualifications Expertise with stable isotope tracer methodologies and metabolic flux analysis. Experience with mathematical modeling and computational analysis of isotopic labeling data. Experience integrating metabolomic, lipidomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and/or other multiomic datasets. Familiarity with bioinformatics and statistical methods for large-scale omics analyses. Experience supporting collaborative research programs and working in multidisciplinary scientific environments. Demonstrated ability to develop innovative analytical methods and translate them to biologically relevant applications. Environment The successful candidate will join a vibrant and highly collaborative research environment with investigators studying the metabolic regulation of immunity across a broad spectrum of disease models. The department has substantial strengths in immunometabolism, inflammation, cancer biology, host-pathogen interactions, and systems biology, providing numerous opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations and methodological innovation. The position offers access to cutting-edge instrumentation and the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of metabolomics and lipidomics research across multiple federally funded programs. The annual base salary range for this position is $115,000-$125,000.
