Job Description

Assistant Professor in Sociology
  • Temporary, 1 year appointment Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill an Assistant Professor in Sociology
  • Temporary Appointment (1 year) in the
Department:
Sociology, Anthropology Criminology, and Social Work. Eastern is Connecticut's Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
Position Description:
This position is a 4/4 teaching load, with courses in sociology, including required courses (e.g., Intro Soc) and electives contributing to at least one of our concentrations (Generalist; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Mental Health and Social Services); for example, Soc Inequality, Soc of Mental Illness. Academic advising will also be included. Faculty are expected to be outstanding teachers, possess sensitivity to a diverse population, and demonstrate commitment to creative activity and scholarship, professional development, and professional service. The faculty will teach SOC 100 Introduction to Sociology and SOC 312 Sociology of Mental Illness courses in the Fall 2026 semester.
Qualifications:
PhD in Sociology preferred; ABD near completion considered.
