5371 Position Vacancy Announcement Florida A&M University's College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applicants for the Assistant Professor for Research vacancy. Responsibilities This position involves an important role in drug design and drug discovery activities and the individual selected will be an integral team player in the university's High Throughput Screening (HTS) research activities. The individual in this position will play a critical role in supporting faculty and student research by providing advanced technical expertise aligned with ongoing experimental and analytical needs; Maintain and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols, and perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of scientific instrumentation; Conduct daily system checks to ensure optimal performance and data integrity; Data generated in the laboratory will directly support faculty and graduate student research, grant submissions, peer reviewed publications, and presentations at scientific conferences; and contribute to collaborative research initiatives, uphold rigorous laboratory safety standards, and provide technical training or mentoring to students as appropriate. This position is essential to ensuring reproducibility, quality, and reliability across a wide range of complex biological and chemical samples, thereby strengthening both translational and basic science research at the University. Report to the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health. Additional duties may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences or the Chair of the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Assist in the oversight and training of graduate students in Pharmaceutical Sciences; Provide opportunities for graduate students to gain laboratory experience as part of their Doctor of Philosophy degree requirements; Support professional (PharmD) students seeking laboratory-based learning experiences to enhance their pharmaceutical education; Provide research and learning opportunities for postdoctoral fellows and other trainees or collaborators. Develop, implement, and conduct independent and collaborative research projects; Maintain competitive extramural grant support for research activities; Disseminate new scientific knowledge through peer reviewed publications and scholarly presentations; Demonstrate the ability to develop, prepare, and submit competitive scientific grant proposals for potential funding; Maintain active engagement in continued education and professional growth; Serve on scientific review panels and editorial boards as appropriate; Present research findings at national and international scientific meetings. Minimum Qualifications Doctor of Philosophy degree or its equivalent in an area related to pharmacology/toxicology and/or medicinal chemistry. Recommended Competencies Develops, implements, and completes independent or collaborative research; Maintains adequate grant support for research endeavors; and, Disseminates new and/or applied knowledge through peer-reviewed publication. Preferred Qualifications The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong record of biomedical research in medicinal chemistry, with particular emphasis on rational drug design (including molecular modeling), chemical synthesis, separation techniques, and structural elucidation using NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. A robust publication record in peer reviewed journals and evidence of leadership in multidisciplinary collaborations are essential. Pay Plan This is a Faculty position. Conditions of Employment Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education. Time limited positions are funded by a contract or grant, auxiliaries and local funds having a defined expiration date.
