Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, located in Fort Pierce, solicits candidates for an Assistant, Associate or Full Research Professor position. The ideal candidate would be a broadly trained marine biological oceanographer with a research focus on zooplankton behavior, ecology, or physiology. Applicants with either individual or community/ecosystem level approaches to characterizing the role of zooplankton in research themes including but not limited to, larval ecology and connectivity, physical-biological coupling, food web dynamics, plankton biodiversity, bioluminescence and grazing ecology, etc., are welcome. Applicants who apply innovative approaches through either novel lab/field-based technologies or ecological modelling towards furthering the understanding of behavioral ecology, including swarming dynamics, patchiness, individual/group feeding behavior, and animal-fluid interactions, are also welcome. The candidate will also have opportunities to develop and teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses related to Biological Oceanography, Marine Ecology and similar topics. Candidates should be willing to work with a team of other scientists and engineers in a university culture that fosters innovation and collaboration within our institute, with colleagues at FAU, and with local national and international partners. Candidates are expected to develop a strong independent research program that would lead to stewardship and wise use of the oceans.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate should possess a PhD or equivalent degree in Biology, Ecology, Oceanography, or a closely related field. Post-doctoral experience is strongly preferred. Candidates should have a strong publication record commensurate with their experience, demonstrated potential for establishing programs of extramurally funded research, and clear promise of excellent instructional capacity. Exceptional candidates with strong experience in the proposed research area, but with degrees in an adjacent field may be considered. Preferred qualifications For applicants at the Associate or Full Research professor position, evidence of an active, well-funded research program commensurate with experience, and evidence of guiding graduate students is expected. The candidate should also possess excellent written and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to establish collaborations and work with colleagues to address contemporary and emerging issues in the ocean sciences.
