Job Description
The Young Harris College Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a full-time tenure tracked Assistant Professor of Theatre who will teach courses in musical theatre and theater as well as direct in the mainstage season. The position is based in the city of Young Harris, which is in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia. The successful candidate must hold a terminal degree in theatre or a closely related field and be capable of teaching acting courses and directing productions. The ideal applicant will be a creative collaborator with significant professional experience in musical theatre as well as experience in higher education. The ability to teach another specialty is also highly desirable. These possible areas include but are not limited to the following: stage movement, performance for musical theatre, voice and diction, history and literature, audition techniques, applied voice, and stage makeup. Theatre Young Harris is a highly successful program offering three degrees; a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre, a B.A. in Theatre Performance, and a B.A. in Theatrical Design and Production. We maintain between 30-45 majors in these degrees, as well as offering a minor in Theatre, a minor in Dance, and a new B.S. in Arts Administration. For more than a decade, most of our students have attained paid jobs, paid internships, or "paid for" graduate school within 12 months of graduation. As a department we produce 4 mainstage productions per year (two musicals and two dramatic presentations), as well as an additional 4-6 shows in our Second Season and Studio Series.
