This full-time role within the College of Health and Human Sciences focuses on teaching within our CAATE -accredited professional Athletic Training program. NIU is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University-High Research Activity located in DeKalb, IL. The main campus is in DeKalb, which is a diverse and growing community, 65 miles west of Chicago's "Loop" and 40 miles southeast of Rockford with education centers in Rockford and Naperville. DeKalb county, with a population of about 100,000, is a modern paradox, a rural/urban community. It is simultaneously recognized for its manufacturing and rich farmlands, as evidenced by it being the site of the first manufacturing of barbed wire and the development of hybrid seed corn. NIU faculty and students live in communities throughout Northern Illinois, including the western Chicago suburbs, city of Rockford, and small towns within driving distance from the university. The recently revitalized downtown city of DeKalb offers shops, restaurants, and other amenities. Position Summary This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track temporary Clinical Assistant Professor. The faculty member is responsible for all aspects of educating Athletic Training students in the MS program through classroom student engagement at Northern Illinois University, clinical practice, and with external clinical placement facilitation. We seek a faculty member who demonstrates a commitment to NIU's mission by supporting access to high-quality education and actively engages students in evidence-based inquiry and community-based learning experiences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The ideal candidate will have the experience and ability to teach a variety of courses in the Athletic Training curriculum and provide mentorship to graduate students. Positively contribute to services within the university (program, school, college, and university levels) and profession. Teaching effectiveness in academic settings and skilled in the use of instructional and computer technology in course delivery, supervision and mentorship of students in clinical settings. Contribute to curriculum development and program advancement and demonstrate a commitment to the academic success of students from multi-cultural backgrounds. Minimum Required Qualifications Earned master's degree and/or doctorate in Athletic Training (PhD) or relevant related field by time of appointment ( ABD considered with established defense date). Experience being a preceptor in student experiences in clinical settings. Previous academic experience with teaching and clinical responsibilities. History of engagement and service to the Athletic Training profession at the local, state, and/or national level. Knowledge of the CAATE accreditation process and ability to meet CAATE requirements related to clinical education and academic instruction. Additional Requirements BOC certified for at least three years and in good standing with the BOC . Current, or eligible to obtain, Illinois athletic training licensure and in good standing. Excellent interpersonal/oral/written communication skills and a strong work ethic. Minimum three years of experience as an athletic trainer (defined as previous clinical practice in athletic training). Preferred Qualifications Earned doctorate in Athletic Training (PhD) or relevant related field by time of appointment ( ABD considered with established defense date). Evidence of capability to engage in and publish research and present at professional meetings. Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of professional developments related to area of specialization. Understanding of assessment and accreditation activities in an academic setting. History of engagement and service to the Athletic Training profession at the local, state, and/or national level.
