IU South Bend English Location South Bend Position Summary The English Department at Indiana University South Bend invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Composition and First Year Writing in the department's expository writing program, to begin August 1, 2027. Applicants should have enthusiasm for teaching first-year students and First-Year Writing in a First Year Writing General Education program integrated within a collegial and lively English Department. The full-time load (100% FTE) is 12 credit hours (typically four courses) each fall and spring semester, with one course reassigned time for scholarly and creative activities following university & campus policies. Successful applicants will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to quality instruction, maintain an active research agenda, and engage in service activities.

Required Basic Qualifications:

PhD in Composition or First Year Writing; ABD candidates nearing completion of degree will be considered. Demonstrated excellence in teaching. Investment in a research agenda in the field. Active engagement in service activities. Commitment to supporting students from a wide range of educational backgrounds.

Preferred Basic Qualifications:

Experience or expertise in writing program leadership. Experience in curriculum development and program development. Strategies for student retention. Demonstrated scholarly activity in the field. Additional qualifications in Professional Writing or English as a Second Language a plus.
