Job Description

The Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory (MDI Bio Lab) in Bar Harbor, ME, invites applications for Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor positions in the Kathryn W. Davis Center for Regenerative Biology and Aging. Established 125 years ago, MDI Bio Lab is a renowned research institution located on the coast of Maine, adjacent to Acadia National Park, and in proximity to the Jackson Laboratory. Our vibrant community comprises ten year-round research labs and collaborating visiting summer scientists that utilize Drosophila, C. elegans, axolotl, zebrafish, and aging. MDI Bio Lab faculty members benefit from state-of-the-art core facilities in bioinformatics, microscopy, and animal models in addition to grant-writing and administrative support. The microscopy core is among the best in the northeast region. Candidates utilizing non-mammalian organisms to address fundamental biological questions in the areas of stem cell and tissue regeneration, germline development, ribonucleoprotein (RNP) assemblies, and aging are particularly suited for this position. Candidates utilizing computational, data science and artificial intelligence approaches to biological problems are also encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain an independent and externally funded research program, mentor Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows, teach laboratory-based undergraduate short courses, participate in summer student research programs, foster visiting scientist collaborations, and engage in service activities within MDI Bio Lab and the broader scientific community. Candidates for senior faculty with experience in Center grant management and direction are well-suited for this position.
