Theater and Dance Position Summary:
Bowdoin College's Theater and Dance Department invites applications for a full-time benefits-eligible visiting assistant professor of dance. The appointment is for one-year beginning July 1, 2026. Bowdoin is particularly interested in candidates dedicated to undergraduate teaching . The teaching load is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will be strong scholar-practitioner, able to teach an African or Afro-diasporic dance technique or improvisational form, and willing to set a work on our students for our end-of-semester dance concert. They will also be expected to teach the course, broadly construed and titled, "Dancing Histories" from the perspective of their research interests. These courses may be cross listed with other departments such as Africana Studies or Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in interdisciplinary approaches, and enthusiasm for teaching a diverse population of students within the liberal arts, from beginner to advanced levels, in a collaborative department. An MFA or PhD is expected by the date of appointment. The targeted hiring salary range for this appointment based on the position requirements is $73,000 - $77,000.
