Teaching Assistant Professor of Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies (GWS)

Interdisciplinary Studies - 250450 Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in GWS is preferred, but candidates with doctoral degrees in related fields will be considered. Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required) The individual hired for this role will teach introductory and upper-level courses in GWS based on their area of expertise and program needs; interdisciplinary teacher-scholars with the ability to teach introduction to LGBT studies, queer theory, and related courses are especially encouraged to apply. License/Certification Required N/A Description of the Department or Unit Appalachian State University's program in GWS is the oldest such program in the University of North Carolina system. It has a thriving undergraduate major and minors inGWS, LGBT
Studies, and Girls Studies, as well as a graduate minor and certificate in GWS, all served by reasonably sized courses. The program is committed to supporting one another in the production of high-quality interdisciplinary scholarship, as well as to engaged teaching and individualized mentoring that equips students to be strong critical thinkers, adept researchers, and clear communicators with a deep understanding of problems focused on gender, women, and sexuality in national and transnational contexts and the analytical skills to offer creative solutions to them. GWS is located in IDS, one of 17 departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. IDS houses BA programs in GWS and Global Studies; Individually Designed BA and BS programs; an MA in Appalachian Studies; 13 interdisciplinary minors; and Watauga Residential College, App State's premier alternative general education program and first year living-learning community.
