Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences-Social Science Description The Department of History at Hofstra University invites applications for the position of a one-year (nonrenewable) Special Assistant Professor of U.S. History, starting September 1, 2026. The teaching load is 18 credit hours annually, including at least six in public history. We seek applicants who are eager to cooperate with faculty, students, and staff of all backgrounds who demonstrate an interest in and a record of success in public history and community engagement, who have teaching and research experience in U.S. public history, material culture and/or museum studies, and/ or digital history. Along with undergraduate classroom teaching the successful candidate will help direct internships and continue to build our community partnerships with local museums, archives, and historic sites. Qualifications A Ph.D. in history is required at the time of appointment. Preferred Quals Summary Expertise in 17th-19th century U.S. social, urban, and/ or indigenous history are welcome, although other fields may be considered.
