Academic Position Summary:
Expected to begin in Fall 2026, this 10-month, tenure-track position is housed in the Education Department and emphasizes the integration of literacy education with effective strategies for teaching English Language Learners (ELLs). The successful candidate will engage in and model reflective teaching and learning as an active member of collaborative teaching teams, working closely with university colleagues as well as professionals in regional partner schools. Responsibilities include preparing preservice teachers to implement evidence-based strategies for supporting English Language Learners; teaching courses focused on literacy development across childhood and adolescence; contributing to literacy and ELL curriculum development; and delivering instruction in pedagogical methods. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of effective teaching, a record of publication and scholarly activity, and meaningful service contributions, all of which are required for tenure and promotion. The successful candidate will teach courses in both face-to-face and online modalities. The Education Department has a long-standing commitment to excellence in teaching and teacher preparation. The teacher education programs at SUNY Plattsburgh are innovative, flourishing, and AAQEP accredited, focusing on the education of children and adolescents from early childhood settings through grades 1-6 and 7-12. Our programs integrate extensive field experiences, developmental and educational theory, content knowledge, and critical pedagogy. We have adopted an inquiry approach to program improvement, and as such, faculty participation in program assessment and improvement activities is required. The School of Education, Health, and Human Services prepares students for successful entry into their profession. We focus on an ethical approach to human well-being and encourage critical thinking and practical application. As SUNY Plattsburgh is an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded policies, programs, and practices. Special Instructions toApplicants:
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Please include a cover letter of interest, resume/CV, personal statement of teaching philosophy, a one-page statement regarding diversity, equity and inclusion, unofficial transcripts, and contact information for three professional references. Additional information may be requested at a later step in the process. Official Transcripts from an accredited institution will be required prior to employment.Similar jobs in Plattsburgh, NY
