Job Description

Heidelberg University is accepting applications for an Interdisciplinary Assistant Professor in Natural Sciences. Programs in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, data analytics, environmental science, and nursing were recentlyconsolidated into the School of Natural Sciences and Nursing. This structural change paved the way for hiring multipleinterdisciplinary faculty positions within the school. During our exciting growth, we are looking for candidates capable of teaching in two or more of the following disciplines : chemistry, physics, ecology and organismal biology,mathematics, and data analytics. An Assistant Professor in the School of Natural Sciences and Nursing provides instruction andadvising to undergraduate students. This faculty appointment includes a full-time teaching load, office hours, advising, committee work,research, and opportunities for continued professional development. This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of extension. Additionally, Heidelberg University boasts the Longaker Live Animal Laboratory , Barlow Body Donor Laboratory , severalnearby diverse natural properties, and the National Center for Water Quality Research.
Essential Duties andResponsibilities:
Teach a full-time load (24 credit hours/year) which includes lecture and laboratory coursesappropriate to their expertise. Utilize innovative and collaborative teaching methods in support of the program's mission andlearning objectives that promote knowledge, critical thinking, and communication competency within the discipline. Attend schooland university faculty meetings. Advise students in scheduling classes and making progress toward degree completion and careergoals. Advise undergraduate student research projects. Contribute to school and interdisciplinary initiatives, includingrecruitment and retention efforts, and curriculum development. Participate in University activities including but not limited to:committee assignments and activities, extra

Perform other essential duties as assigned/as outlined in the Faculty Manual.

Reports directly to the Chair of the School of Natural Sciences and Nursing.
SupervisionExercised:
May supervise student research conducted in the school or students working as teaching/prep assistants (TAs).

Requirements Education and ProfessionalExperience:
Master's Degree in chemistry, data analytics, ecology and organismal biology, mathematics, physics, or aclosely related field. Teaching/Instructional/Professional experience in at least two (2) of the areas above. Please use your coverletter to describe areas in which you have experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Ph.D.or ABD in chemistry, data analytics, ecology and organismal biology, mathematics, physics, or closely related fields. Documentedbackground in the related instructional area. Two years of college-level teaching experience.

Toolsand Equipment Used:
Knowledge of operation and use of various office equipment, including, but not limited to: personal computer,including spreadsheet and word processing software, integrated database software, fax machines, copier, telephone, scanner, and printers. Avalid driver's license may be required.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative ofthose that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of thisjob, the employee is frequently required to use arms, hands and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment generally found in an officesetting. The employee may be frequently required to be mobile, communicate, and hear. The employee may occasionally be subject to a varietyof outdoor environmental conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten(10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include closevision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Mental demands include varieddegrees of occasional stress while performing job duties.

The work environment characteristicsdescribed here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing theduties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office setting, and educational facilities including sports and entertainmentvenues, all of which may be indoor or outdoor. The noise level in the work environment will range from moderately quiet to occasionallyloud.
