F00383 Division Academic Affairs Division Position Type Faculty Position Overview The Mathematical Sciences Department at Rhode Island College seeks a teacher-scholar committed to excellence in undergraduate education. The department offers Bachelor's Degrees in Mathematics and Data Science and a Master's in Mathematical Studies , serving majors as well as students from education, business, and general education programs. The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate courses, including general education, foundational courses, and ideally, a willingness to teach undergraduate probability and statistics. Responsibilities include advising and mentoring majors, contributing to department and college service, and collaborating across subdisciplines in the department. Founded in 1854, RIC is a teaching-focused, primarily undergraduate institution of approximately 6,600 students located in suburban Providence. We proudly serve a diverse student body-over 40% students of color and more than 45% first-generation students-and are a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Rhode Island offers a high quality of life with access to beaches, natural areas, and the cultural resources of Providence, Boston, and New York. Essential Duties Teach a range of courses offered by the Mathematical Sciences Department, including general education courses and foundational courses. Advise students majoring in programs offered by Mathematical Sciences. Engage in scholarly research and professional activities. Participate in required College and Departmental activities and service. Occasional Duties Teach other courses as appropriate. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Must possess effective technical, oral and written communications and management/organizational skills. Must possess the ability to work with students and colleagues. Willingness to serve in faculty committee work as part of the RIC shared governance model.
Required Qualifications Education:
Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics, conferred by August 15, 2026. Preferred Qualifications College teaching experience. Environmental Conditions The employee is not exposed to known adverse environmental conditions. Proposed Compensation Assistant Professor
