Description The Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at The University of Texas at Austin invites qualified applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Biomechanics and Neurorehabilitation. We are seeking a highly productive scholar with expertise in biomechanical and neuromuscular mechanisms of human movement and their role in preventing the onset, progression, or recurrence of adverse health and behavioral outcomes. The Biomechanics and Neurorehabilitation area of our department combines the traditional fields of biomechanics; motor development, motor control, and learning; and cognitive and neuromuscular function. This program examines multidisciplinary aspects of how people move in a variety of settings, including clinical applications, elite performance, and typical changes related to development and aging. The ultimate goal of our work in this area is to generate research which can translate into the improvement of clinical and functional outcomes for people across different stages of life. Our ideal candidate will have a prevention-oriented research agenda that uses biomechanics and/or neuromuscular control to examine mechanisms related to adverse health and behavioral outcomes or develops interventions targeting these mechanisms and pathways to improve health and behavioral outcomes. Integral to program areas in Kinesiology and Health Education and throughout the college, the candidate will build interdisciplinary collaborations linking biomechanics and neuromuscular control with behavioral, clinical, community, or public health prevention frameworks. We expect the successful candidate to have a strong publication record and to demonstrate a record of, or potential for, securing external grants to support their research. In addition, the successful candidate will show potential to be an excellent mentor and will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching coursework in their areas of expertise and within biomechanics, movement science, and other biomechanics and neurorehabilitation sub-disciplinary areas.
