Job Summary The Physician Assistant (PA) Program Principal Faculty member is responsible for contributing to the design, delivery, and assessment of the PA curriculum under the direction and supervision of the Program Director. Faculty members support the academic mission of the program by teaching, advising students, participating in assessment and remediation processes, contributing to committee work, and assisting with program operations. This position plays an active role in maintaining compliance with ARC-PA Standards in delivering a high-quality educational experience. Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks Teaching and Instruction (Didactic and Clinical) Responsibilities Teach assigned didactic courses and deliver content through lectures, labs, simulation, small-group discussions, and case-based learning. Provide clinical instruction in physical examination, clinical procedures, patient interviewing, diagnostic reasoning, and clinical documentation. Develop syllabi, assessments, exams, OSCE materials, and instructional resources that align with program outcomes and current clinical practice. Provide hands-on instruction and evaluation in core clinical skills, including physical examination, diagnostic reasoning, procedural skills, point-of-care ultrasound (if applicable), and patient communication. Lead or support simulation-based instruction using standardized patients, task trainers, and high-fidelity simulation to prepare students for clinical rotations. Clinical Phase Support Assist the Program Director and assigned core faculty with clinical phase operations, including reviewing student evaluations, site visit participation, assessing student case logs, and supporting students who require additional clinical reinforcement. Provide coaching in clinical reasoning, documentation, and professionalism to help students prepare for and perform successfully in clinical rotations. Curriculum Support Contribute to curriculum design, revision, and mapping in collaboration with program leadership. Ensure didactic and clinical content is integrated, evidence-based, and aligned with ARC-PA competencies Participate in continuous curriculum improvement efforts to enhance instructional quality and student learning outcomes. Student Advising & Support Advise students on academic performance, progression, and professionalism. Provide support to students experiencing challenges and participate in remediation plans as directed by program leadership. Promote professional behavior and maintain accurate documentation of advising interactions. Assessment & Evaluation Develop, administer, and grade written exams, practical skills assessments, and OSCEs. Provide constructive, timely feedback to students and assist with evaluating clinical performance and progression Participate in the development and scoring of standardized patient encounters, clinical skills checkoffs, and competency-based evaluations. Provide remediation for students requiring additional clinical training, including skill reinforcement, targeted coaching, and structured improvement plans. Program & Committee Participation Participate in program committees such as admissions, curriculum, assessment, and student progress Assist with interview days, orientation, information sessions, and program events. Support accreditation documentation, quality improvement initiatives, and program operations as assigned. Scholarship, Service & Professional Growth Supports the scholarly mission of the PA Program through research, presentations, or educational innovation related to PA clinical practice or PA training Serves the program, school, or institution on committees or initiatives when requested. Represents the program at conferences and professional meetings as appropriate. Maintains professional competence continuing education, clinical practice Contributes to community service initiatives through participation in outreach events, volunteer activities, and partnerships that benefit the local community. Clinical Practice & Patient Care Engage in clinical practice as a licensed healthcare provider (PA, MD) to maintain current proficiency with evolving standards of patient care. Provide direct patient evaluation, diagnosis, management, and procedural care to ensure alignment with contemporary clinical guidelines and best practices. Incorporate real-world clinical cases and current evidence-based guidelines into didactic teaching, labs, simulation, and OSCE development. Serve as a clinical role model for students by demonstrating high-quality patient care, effective interprofessional communication, and strong clinical reasoning in active practice settings. Translate clinical experience into curriculum improvements, ensuring that clinical skills instruction reflects current practice, specialty-specific competencies, and ARC-PA expectations. Maintain compliance with state licensure, National and or Board certification, and ongoing continuing education requirements. Collaborate with clinical partners, preceptors, and healthcare teams to support student learning, strengthen clinical site relationships, and reinforce programmatic clinical expectations. Required Education / Experience Master's degree as a Physician Assistant. Current NCCPA certification and eligibility for state licensure (if PA) Experience in clinical practice and/or health professions education. Strong communication, teaching, and clinical instruction skills. Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and evaluate Physician Assistant students in both didactic and clinical settings. Preferred Education / Experience Doctorate and or additional master's degree in research, education/business administration/public health. Prior teaching experience in research, PA or medical education. Experience teaching clinical skills, simulation, or OSCEs. Familiarity with ARC-PA Standards and PA Program operations. Experience with student assessment or remediation. Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Strong teaching, clinical, and facilitation skills.
