The School of Arts and Social Sciences (AHSS) at Habib University invites applications for open-rank faculty positions for Literature in its Comparative Humanities program. Depending on the credentials, candidates will be considered at Assistant Professor or Associate Professor ranks as appropriate. The program seeks talented faculty who are passionate about teaching and student learning. The successful candidate will play an important role in teaching courses on major themes, figures, and traditions in world literature for the literature concentration, minor, and program core sequence. The university strongly encourages and supports faculty research in their areas of intellectual interest in literature. There will also be significant committee service expectations, given that this is a growing program and university. Habib University seeks outstanding student mentors who will be actively involved in students' academic and intellectual development through mentoring, student support, enrolment initiatives, and other activities related to the undergraduate educational experience. Fall appointments begin August 1st and Spring appointments begin January 1st.

Qualification:

Candidates must have completed, or be in the final stages of completing, a doctoral degree in Literature or a closely related field from a leading global institution recognized for its strength in this area. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong competence across major periods, genres, and traditions in literature, with the ability to teach comparatively across linguistic and cultural contexts. Areas of research specialization are open, though candidates with the capacity to teach both Western and non-Western literary traditions will be viewed favorably.

Responsibilities:

The candidate hired for this role will be expected to teach each semester and contribute to the literature concentration, minor, and program core sequence. Additional responsibilities include active engagement in institutional service, professional activities, student mentorship, curriculum planning, and program review. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to cross-disciplinary courses in the Comparative Humanities Core Curriculum and Habib University's Liberal Core Curriculum, alongside active engagement in institutional service, professional activities, student mentorship, curriculum planning, and review. The annual teaching load is five (three- or four-credit) courses. Once onboard, faculty should also anticipate supporting the Habib Liberal Core, a core component of our Liberal Arts education containing four foundational divisions: Humanities; Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Computing; Social Sciences; and Language, Expression, and Design. As part of this commitment to a student-centric, interdisciplinary curriculum, faculty members in Literature are expected to contribute to, but not limited to, the teaching and delivery of HLC courses within the division of Humanities; and Language, Expression, working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure curricular coherence, academic rigor, and an equitable learning experience for all students.
