Job Description

This position focuses heavily on undergraduate teaching in a program that integrates comprehensive technical training with a rigorous critical approach. The department, housed in the School of Design and Communication in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, is a strong, devoted community of media scholars, producers, practicing artists, and designers committed to its students and collegiality. The ability to interface with faculty and students in Media Studies, Professional Communication, and Graphic Design is a significant aspect of the position. The new faculty member will be tasked with building a program in Sports & Performance Media and collaborating in defining the wider trajectories of both the program and department, particularly at the intersection of communication and media studies. UWSP is actively committed to creating a welcoming and equitable culture. The College of Fine Arts and Communication maintains a five-year Action Plan for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, including in Faculty Recruitment and Development, and system-wide strategies are in place to support the retention and tenure progression of individuals from under-represented groups. The university is rooted in the supportive community of Stevens Point, which provides a restorative environment conducive to deep creative focus. This location is a retreat while also serving as a strategic hub, offering a productive work-life balance while maintaining convenient access to major markets. Madison and Green Bay are less than two hours away, and the urban centers of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Milwaukee and Chicago are within driving distance, ensuring faculty can readily engage with professional communities.
