The One-Year-Only (OYO) instructor will use multiple methods of instruction, assessment strategies, and appropriate technology to engage students in learning and promote student success. The instructor may teach classes in multiple delivery formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online, and may teach daytime or evening classes at the Union Hills campus. The instructor will also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in service, collaboration, and innovation within the Communication and Liberal Arts Division and at the college and district levels, as well as facilitate activities outside the classroom for students.

The hiring process includes a micro-teach presentation, as well as a second interview. Essential Functions Teaches a diverse population of students including students in high school programs, using in-person, hybrid, accelerated, and online formats, using learning-centered strategies to engage students. Demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and scholarship of learning by focusing on student success, retention, and completion. Incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques. Develops instructional materials and curriculum, including syllabi, course outlines, and course materials. Assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records. Prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities, participates in division and college assessment and program review processes. Uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning. Maintains office hours to assist and advise students to promote learning and personal development. Works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects such as clubs, undergraduate research, and internships with business and industry. Develops and cultivates relationships with high school and university institutions to develop and promote transfer pathways for students. Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through technology, research, reading/studying the literature, attendance at conferences, courses, seminars and/or workshops; develops and enhances knowledge of teaching and learning; participates in college and district activities, including department/division meetings, committees, workshops, and projects. Works with the faculty team to evaluate and select classroom materials; may participate in designing customized curriculum, materials, and activities; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college; demonstrates intercultural competence in interactions with students, staff, and the community; maintains a collegial team approach in collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Desired Qualifications 1. Master's degree (or higher) in Communication, Communication Studies, Human Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Speech Communication, Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, or Communication Education. 2. Three (3) plus academic years Communication teaching experience; specifically, 100-200 level communication courses at a community college or university. 3. Demonstrated experience applying active learning approaches to enhance student engagement and understanding of communication concepts. 4. Demonstrated use of a variety of formal and informal assessment methods for the purposes of gauging student learning and teaching effectiveness to improve learning. 5. Experience teaching a diverse student body with various levels of educational preparedness, with a demonstrated commitment to closing achievement gaps and promoting a supportive learning environment. 6. Demonstrated experience in leading and/or collaborating with students and colleagues in a variety of settings, including but not limited to: course design and development, committee involvement, leading student clubs or organizations outside the classroom, or supervising student projects. 7. One year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years.
