The Department of Communication invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Professional Writing. The successful candidatewill teach courses in the written side of communication - including but not limited to business writing, social media writing, freelancewriting, editing, Microsoft 365 tools, technical writing, and capstone courses. Experience in book publishing processes is a plus. Thecandidate will also be called upon to assist the department in teaching the required core courses, advise and mentor undergraduate students,engage in scholarly research and general market writing, and provide meaningful service to the community, department, anduniversity. The Professional Writing program is rooted in the understanding that everyorganization needs communicators who are strong writers and editors. The classes in the major are designed to give students experience inthe many types of writing that they may be called upon to do in a future job. While some students come in with a desire to write and publishtheir own books, and while they are encouraged to hone their skills toward book publication through classes that overview the publishingworld and its processes, they are also encouraged to understand that God can use their love of and skill with words to become valuableemployees. Duties and Responsibilities Testify to personal experience of salvationin Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personallyagree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University. Teach a four-course load per semester (total of 12 credithours). Advise and mentor students, supporting academic, professional, and personal development. Conduct and publishscholarly research in the field of writing or communication, as well as publish articles and/or books for the generalaudience. Actively participate in departmental service, curriculum development, committee work, and faith integration. Serveas faculty adviser to the Taylor University Professional Writers Conference. Build and maintain strong connections with alumni,local nonprofits, and industry professionals to support internships, service-learning, article interview projects, and communitypartnerships. Promote student achievements, alumni success stories, and program highlights through digital and in-personengagement. Actively work with admissions for recruitment and advancement. Assist students in developing professionalportfolios. Typical Qualifications An appropriately earned doctorate orMFA is preferred but consideration will be given to candidates in the midst of doctoral or MFA studies. Excellence in teaching and ademonstrated or emerging record of published writing. Commitment to collegiality, collaboration, service learning, and integrationof faith and learning. Supplemental Information The Communication Departmentconsists of six full-time faculty, and one full-time program assistant serving approximately 120 students in each of 4 majors: ProfessionalWriting, Communication, Public Relations, and Multimedia Journalism.
