Job Description

The University of Macau (UM) is an internationalized research-oriented comprehensive public university in the Macao SpecialAdministrative Region (MSAR) located at the west bank of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The GBA is rapidly developinginto one of the leading technology and innovation hubs of the world. UM is placed No. 145 in the THE World University Rankings and placedNo. 267 in the QS World University Rankings. With a scenic campus of approximately one square kilometer on Hengqin island, UM has achievedsignificant progress in the past decade as evidenced by its rising international repute, state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities,and the establishment of three State Key Laboratories in microelectronics, Chinese medical sciences, and internet of things for smart city.

To support economic diversification of MSAR and deepen collaboration between MSAR and Guangdong Province in Hengqin island, UM will continueto invest in cutting-edge research and develop interdisciplinary programmes in key strategic areas including precision oncology, advancedmaterials, regional oceanography, artificial intelligence and robotics, data science, cognitive and brain science and economics and finance.

Leveraging its '4-in-1' model of education and residential college system, UM provides all-round undergraduate education, nurturing talentto support social and economic development in MSAR and the GBA as a whole. In addition, UM is currently establishing a campus in theGuangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, which is expected to be operational in 2028. It may be notedthat English is the working language and the primary medium of instruction at UM. The University of Macau sincerely invitesapplications for the position of the Dean of Faculty of Engineering . Faculty of Engineering The new Facultyof Engineering will bring together four existing departments from the Faculty of Science and Technology, including the Department of Civiland Environmental Engineering, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, andthe Department of Ocean Science and Technology, while also establishing new departments, including the Department of Materials Science andEngineering, the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and the Department ofBiomedical Engineering. With an expected enrolment of about 4,000 students, the faculty will help meet the growing demand for engineeringtalent and technological innovation in Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Dean of Faculty ofEngineering The successful candidate should have considerable experience in faculty management, academic strategic planning,curriculum design, laboratory setup and research development, and must be highly committed to the pursuit of excellence in teaching,research and service. In particular, the candidate should have the following credentials: 1. An earned doctoral degree inEngineering or related disciplines; 2. A distinguished record of internationally-recognized research and scholarship; 3. Evidence ofoutstanding academic leadership, demonstrated commitment to leading research and a record of effective teaching in higher educationsettings; 4. Ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, drive technological innovation, and establish relationship with diversestakeholders; 5. Excellent management, interpersonal and communication skills; 6. Proficiency in English is required as it is theworking language, while knowledge in Chinese/Portuguese will be an advantage. Remuneration Remuneration will becommensurate with the successful applicant's academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum incometax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
