GENERAL SUMMARY
The successful Adjunct Instructor of Criminal Justice must possess the academic and practical expertise to guide student learning and success, and to serve as a mentor and model for students. The Adjunct Instructor of Criminal Justice is experienced in an area of criminal justice such as policing, corrections and/or the law. This position will demonstrate strong instructional skills and engage a diverse student body using traditional, nontraditional, and innovative methods of instruction and effectively structure classes and curriculum to support program and course outcomes. Teaching can occur on campus, off campus at a partner location and/or online. Duties and Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES
The Adjunct Instructor of Criminal Justice is responsible for instructing assigned in person classes or delivering on-line content consistent with CCCS, CCD, CTE and department policies. Course content will adhere to the learning objectives of the regular syllabus and, with department policies. The Adjunct Instructor of Criminal Justice is available, either face to face or electronically, to students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education(Minimum/Required): Completed master's degree or jurist doctorate in a related field with 2,000 verified occupational/industry hours within the last five years OR relevant current industry license/certification with 2,000 verified occupational/industry hours within the last fifteen years. Which could include areas such as Criminal Justice, Law, Law Enforcement, Emergency Service, Homeland Security, Investigations, Corrections, Public Service. Qualify for a Colorado Career and Technical Education Credential in criminal justice. Experience (Minimum/Required): Five years of experience in law enforcement, corrections or law with 3-5 years of teaching or training experience preferably in a community college. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (Minimum/Required): Demonstrates a commitment to teaching Uses appropriate and various teaching strategies Uses flexible approaches in teaching for learning Acknowledges differences in learning styles and motivation Encourages students to achieve goals Relates coursework to real life experiences Maintains a positive and empathetic attitude towards students Organizes subject matter, course materials, and objectives Communicates effectively Maintains knowledge of and enthusiasm for both the subject matter and teaching Maintains current and relevant syllabus Following State guidelines when indicated Reviews and updates course materials Uses evaluation methods related to and appropriate for course content Uses supplemental resources in addition to a textbook or other course materials Participate in all aspects of the department and/or college level assessment of student learning outcomes Supplemental Information Our campus is located in downtown Denver, adjacent to two light rail stations, and just minutes away from shopping, restaurants, and event venues.
