Department Summary The College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences (PAHS) at the University of North Texas prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, exercise physiology and urban design. We have eight academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Kristin Farmer Autism Center, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNTWISE) program, UNT ELEVAR, and several professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society. The Department of Criminal Justice is committed to excellence in teaching, research and service. We focus on preparing students for professional services and advanced graduate studies with integrated teaching methods involving peers. With the use of classwork, online teaching and hands-on experiences, our department offers a unique education for students. Our department is able to provide experiences to students that enable them to undertake important issues in society. Our country has an ongoing need to address its crime problems, creating not only new challenges, but opportunities for growth and justness that our Criminal Justice majors can explore and work for. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba. Position Overview The Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Lecturer. This is a non-tenure track, multi-year appointment after a one-year probationary period, pending a satisfactory performance evaluation. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic and growing program committed to academic excellence, student success, and community engagement. The Lecturer will teach undergraduate-level courses in criminal justice, with the potential to teach graduate-level courses, support student mentorship and career readiness, and contribute to departmental service. We seek an engaging educator who connects theory to contemporary issues in crime, law, justice systems, and public safety—preparing students to lead in an evolving criminal justice landscape. The candidate selected for this position will be expected to engage in high-quality and innovative instruction in both traditional and non-traditional formats; serve as appropriate on department, college, university and professional committees; and engage in scholarly and professional activities. Minimum Qualifications- Master's degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field;
- Experience with online/hybrid/remote instruction;
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Meets the performance expectations related to the workload outlined in UNT Policy 06.005. Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Criminal Justice or a closely related field;
- Experience teaching multiple courses across the Criminal Justice curriculum Required License/Registration/Certifications Physical Requirements Communicating with others to exchange information.
