Job Description
The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for an adjunct faculty position in the Criminology, Law and Society Department to teach courses as needed throughout the academic year, including summer.
Job Summary:
Adjunct Instructor for Criminology, Law, and Society courses. The courses are offered during the day, evening, and/or online.Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree required with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Administration of Justice. At least three years of full-time experience working in the criminal justice system or an NGO with emphasis on criminal justice.Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, Criminology, or a degree in Jurisprudence. Teaching experience in a university or two-year college.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Teaches Criminology, Law, and Society courses at a variety of times and platforms. Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material. Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines Meets with and advises students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community Attends meetings, training, and orientations as required Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned Comfortable in the use of Blackboard and PowerPoint as an instructorKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
