Overview The Firefighter Academy is a 22.5-credit, one-quarter recruit academy delivered in a cohort model, covering fire behavior, building construction, hose and ladder operations, ventilation, rescue and extrication, hazardous materials and fire prevention. Training spans classroom, drill ground and live fire evolutions. The curriculum meets NFPA 1001 and qualifies successful candidates to sit for Washington State Firefighter I, Firefighter II and Hazardous Materials Operations written and practical exams, within EvCC's IFSAC-accredited fire science program.

00021997 Assignments vary in credits/load. For example, one 5 credit lecture course would be 33.33% course load. Additional compensation may be available for courses that meet high wage / high demand criteria. Please review Appendix D of the AFT Contract for salary information. Duties & Responsibilities Teaching Foster an equitable, anti-racist, and culturally inclusive learning environment and demonstrate an awareness of the experiences and needs of the current student population. Develop curriculum, prepare, modify and deliver teaching/learning activities designed to maximize student learning and foster inclusive excellence. Teach courses in accordance with the course record, course syllabus, approved student learning objectives, and quarterly course schedules. Design and/or deliver course assignments, learning activities and assessments that enable students to meet the course's stated learning outcomes. Develop a current course syllabus using the College's inclusive syllabus template and submit it to the Instruction Office prior to the start of the quarter. At the course level, assess student work using appropriate methodologies that promote further learning; at the department or program level; at the program or department level, disaggregate, review and assess student learning outcomes with the goal of continuous improvement and reduction of opportunity gaps. Complete summative evaluations of student work during the College's scheduled finals week; submit final grades by the designated deadline. Create and maintain department and student records in accordance with college policies and procedures. Refer students to college services, community agencies and other professionals as appropriate. Establish, post, and maintain regularly scheduled office hours for consultation with students. Participation in College Matters Complete annual trainings as required by state and federal law. Associate Faculty will be compensated for trainings required by the College independent of compensation received for their quarterly workload assignment. Read and respond to College communications (phone, email, etc.) in a timely manner. Continuation of Professional Standards Stay current in relevant best practices, emerging topics, and research. Maintain certification and/or licensure required by the College in the performance of the faculty member's assignment. Optional Duties By mutual agreement, compensation may be available for participation in the following: Opening week activities, meetings and professional development opportunities. Faculty forums. Annual commencement ceremony in June. Service on committees. Department, division and College meetings and be involved in department, division and college matters. Reassigned Time The leadership of the College has the right to assign faculty duties to faculty members. Faculty may be assigned non-faculty duties including, but not limited to, administrative functions, leadership of college initiatives, or other specially assigned duties. Qualifications Required Education and Experience (or equivalent combination of): Professional Firefighter Minimum 1 year of firefighting experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Understanding of firefighting practices and equipment Knowledge of IFSTA training materials Ability to professionally communicate with students in a drill environment Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service oriented Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies Be able to teach and facilitate prehospital skills Knowledge of competency-based education principles and methods Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback Ability to promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving among educational participants Ability to maintain complete, accurate educational records Preferred Fire Instructor 1 Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 Hazmat Awareness and Operations certifications Additional Information Physical Requirements Everett Community College follows the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and provides the following information as a guideline for applicants: Ability to operate office equipment, including computers and telecommunication devices.
