Supported Education Specialist (part-time)

The Supported Education Specialist provides instruction and assistance to individuals with disabilities to help them prepare for, access, and successfully navigate post-secondary education or employment-related training programs. This role focuses on education and training navigation, coordination, and support, not tutoring, remediation, or academic instruction. The ideal candidate is organized, patient, and skilled at guiding individuals through complex education systems while supporting informed choice and independence. About the Supported Education Program Supported Education services assist individuals with disabilities in preparing for and participating in post-secondary education or employment-related training necessary to achieve their selected employment goal. Services may include identifying education or training requirements, exploring suitable programs, assisting with financial aid navigation, registering for classes, accessing campus resources, and coordinating disability-related accommodations. Supported Education is not tutoring or remedial instruction. Services focus on navigation, coordination, access, and support within educational environments. Key Responsibilities Assist clients in identifying education and/or training requirements related to their selected employment goal. Support clients in locating and selecting appropriate post-secondary education or training programs aligned with their strengths, abilities, and informed choice. Assist clients in identifying educational costs and exploring financial aid options, including grants, scholarships, and comparable benefits. Support clients in applying for financial aid and completing required forms as appropriate. Assist clients with registration for educational or training programs, including on-campus or online enrollment. Support orientation to educational environments, including campus facilities, online platforms, libraries, and student support services. Assist clients in accessing academic advising and developing a Plan of Study or Degree Audit when applicable. Support registration with campus Disability Resource Centers (DRC) and coordination of disability-related accommodations or special services. Ensure services remain within scope and focused on education navigation and support (not tutoring or remediation). Adapt instruction and pacing to meet physical, cognitive, sensory, or mental health-related needs. Use culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate instructional approaches. Coordinate professional interpreting services when required (e.g., ASL or foreign language). Complete and maintain required Supported Education documentation, including service plans, checklists, progress reports, and closure reports. Monitor client engagement and notify appropriate internal contacts when participation is inconsistent or barriers arise. Communicate significant challenges that may interfere with successful completion of service objectives. Participate in meetings with clients and other stakeholders as needed to review progress and next steps. What This Role Is NOT This role does not provide tutoring, remedial instruction, therapy, counseling, or case management. Services focus on education and training access, coordination, and support only. Required Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following: Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Social Work, Human Services, Disability Studies, or a closely related field plus at least 1 year of full-time experience working with individuals with disabilities OR Bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Social Work, Human Services, Disability Studies, or a closely related field plus at least 2 years of full-time experience working with individuals with disabilities OR High school diploma or GED plus at least 5 years of full-time experience working with individuals with disabilities Personnel without the above qualifications may provide direct services only under supervision and must have a high school diploma or GED plus at least one (1) year of documented experience working with individuals with disabilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting individuals in post-secondary education or training environments. Experience coordinating disability-related accommodations or campus support services. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Ability to navigate education systems, forms, and deadlines with clients. Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
