Kings County Department of Public Health is currently seeking qualified individuals for the position of:
HEALTH EDUCATION SPECIALIST
$64,043.20 - $78,208.00 Annually Kings County is seeking a dedicated and community-focused Health Education Specialis t to join our Public Health team. Plans, implements, and evaluates public health education and disease prevention programs; assists administrative and supervisory personnel in the planning, conduct and evaluation of health education aspects of departmental programs; designs and conducts evaluations to assess the quality and performance of health programs. Works with various community groups and organizations to encourage an interest in public health; collaborates with health specialists and civic groups to determine community health needs, the availability of services, and to develop goals for meeting needs. Advises departmental personnel on the use of educational materials and techniques and the use of community resources; organizes special health education programs, conferences, meetings, and speaker's bureaus on health topics. Provides education and resources to individual members of the public regarding specific diseases or conditions that are the subject of the health education program. Prepares publicity materials including news releases, pamphlets, newsletters, and bulletins to publicize and explain health services and programs; prepares educational materials for meetings and training sessions; reviews published materials for readability and suitability for the department's acquisition and maintains a stock of educational materials for distribution. Maintains databases, mailing lists and other information to facilitate the functionality of health education programs. Develops, conducts, or coordinates health needs assessments and other public health surveys; develops and maintains health education libraries to provide resources for staff and community agencies. Coordinates coalitions and work groups; develops agenda; schedules and facilitates meetings; and records and distributes minutes. Maintains current knowledge of health education program topics and issues and recommends improvements, as appropriate. Performs related duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public health, community health education, psychology, or a closely related field.
Experience:
One (1) year of experience providing education or outreach to specific and general populations.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Licenses:
Possession of a valid California driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check. Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends as necessary, and travel within and outside the County. Certain positions in this classification may be designated as bilingual, requiring fluency in a foreign language. All completed applications and supplemental questionnaires will be reviewed. Depending upon the number of applicants who meet the minimum qualifications, the examination process may include a screening committee (pass/fail) and/or written examination (pass/fail) and/or an oral examination (100%) which may include a written practical component to determine placement on the eligible list.
Note :
Those applicants who are among the top 40 written test scores will be invited to participate in the oral examination process.
