In this role, you will be responsible for leading the school's social-emotional learning, student behavior support systems, and individualized student services. This role oversees the development and implementation of consistent, school-wide approaches to behavior management, student support, and intervention strategies that promote a positive and inclusive learning environment. The SEL Specialist serves as the central leader for student behavioral concerns, providing direct coaching and support to teachers, responding to classroom needs, and guiding effective interventions for students. They work closely with faculty and administration to ensure that behavior expectations are clearly defined, consistently applied, and aligned with the school's values and educational goals. A key component of this role includes leading and participating in all meetings related to student behavior, support services, and IEP development and review. The SEL Specialist ensures that all student support plans are implemented with fidelity, that accommodations are appropriately used, and that progress is regularly monitored and documented. Duties Design and implement engaging social-emotional curricula tailored to diverse student needs, including those with ADHD, autism, developmental disabilities, or in early childhood education settings Collaborate with teachers, speech therapists, behavioral health specialists, and families to develop individualized plans aligned with IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals Conduct assessments of students' social-emotional skills using standardized testing tools and observational methods Provide direct support to teachers and students through classroom management techniques, behavioral therapy strategies, and social skills coaching Develop and deliver professional development workshops for staff and students on best practices in SEL, behavior management, and trauma-informed care Facilitate small group sessions and mentoring programs focused on emotional regulation and group skills. Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, IEP compliance, and behavioral health interventions to ensure transparent communication with all stakeholders Attend and lead all meetings related to student behavior, intervention planning, student support services, and IEP development and review. This includes coordinating with directors, teachers, families, and support staff to ensure consistent implementation of accommodations, progress monitoring, and individualized support plans, while maintaining clear documentation and follow-up on all student support decisions. Collaborate closely with the Judaic Studies Director and General Studies Director to design, plan, and deliver high-quality professional development (PD) sessions on staff training days. This includes identifying instructional priorities, aligning training with school-wide goals, and ensuring PD is practical, engaging, and directly supports teacher growth and student success. Serve as the primary point of contact for teachers seeking support with classroom behavior challenges, providing timely guidance, coaching, and in-the-moment strategies to support both students and staff. Assist teachers in implementing and executing IEPs with fidelity, ensuring that all required accommodations, interventions, and resources are properly in place, consistently utilized, and effectively supporting student progress. Qualifications Proven experience working with children in classroom settings or early childhood education environments Strong knowledge of childhood development theories, special education practices, and behavioral health principles Expertise in curriculum development for SEL topics as well as literacy education and math integration Familiarity with therapy techniques, behavioral therapy approaches, and working with individuals with ADHD, autism, and Learning disabilities Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with educators, families, and healthcare professionals Ability to develop individualized lesson plans that incorporate classroom management strategies and behavioral health interventions Experience with standardized testing procedures and progress monitoring tools Demonstrated ability to mentor students while fostering a supportive learning environment Prior experience in Jewish private schools or Montessori/Reggio settings is a plus
