Special Education Coordinator Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree; Masters Degree Preferred Indiana Teaching License, Building Level Administrator and/or Director of Exceptional Needs Preferred Effective communication and collaboration skills Experience providing special education services in a public school setting Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Positive Behavior Instructional Supports (PBIS) Experience working with students with disabilities and supervising special education staff Experience working with community agencies
Performance Responsibilities:
Assists special education staff in the development and implementation of IEPs and ensures legal compliance of Article 7. Coordinates and manages ongoing staff development as well as supervises and evaluates special education teaching assistants. Works collaboratively with parents, school staff and outside agencies. Collaborates with building administrators as well as middle school staff to ensure efficient transitions from 8th grade to 9th grade. Coordinates with autism and behavior coordinators, OTs, PTs, SLPs, hearing/vision specialists, homebound instructors, district special education leadership and cohort teams to ensure alignment and student support. Serves as the CPI leader for the building. Oversees the administration of the alternate assessment, IAM. Performs other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the building principal.   • Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
  • Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning Principles/Guidelines
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Instructional Supports
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding special education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed including Power School Special Programs.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

5 day Teacher Contractual School Year 10 additional days for full-time employees beyond the school year Teacher salary + specialist stipend
