Principal Basic Function:
The STEM instructional coach will increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction through observation and feedback, lesson-modeling, co-teaching, mentoring, and facilitating academic reflection. The coach will assist in aligning instruction with best practices in the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics across content areas to meet the needs of all students.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in instructional planning and expand teachers' use of a variety of resources to provide high-quality STEM learning opportunities. Implement intensive professional development on high-quality instructional practices in STEM education in conjunction with IDOE. Work with and model continuous learning for teachers, individual, collaborative teams, and/or with departments, providing practical support for a full range of STEM integrations into reading, writing, language arts, math, problem solving and communication strategies. Provide STEM leadership across the school community, maintain current progress, and serve as a thoughtful resource for oSTEM advancement in the school. Helps strengthen family and school ties by engaging families in reading, language arts, and math literacy. Provide data management training, collection, analyzing and processing with school staff. Provide training on formative assessment administration based on the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Work with the instructional team and Principal to order materials and supplies to support instruction, professional development and parent involvement. Other duties as assigned by principal. Participate in training provided by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred, with a minimum of five years of experience, Expertise related to STEM content and pedagogy. Valid Indiana Teacher's License. Five (5) years of effective classroom teaching experience. Proven leadership ability. Ability to organize, plan and implement effective professional development based on the needs of students and teachers. An explicit understanding of effective Math and Reading/Language Arts curriculum and instructional practices. Knowledge of collaborative instructional models. Assist in the collaboration of school plans such as the SIP, Title I and PLC. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in instructional programs related to high-quality STEM instructional practices. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on high-quality STEM instructional practices reflecting the needs and abilities of all students. Expertise related to STEM content and pedagogy.
Physical Demands:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other technologies and office equipment, sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling; bending at the waist; lifting; pushing; pulling and carrying equipment, supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds; repetitive hand movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard; emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read; prepare and assure the accuracy of documents.
