Per VEA Contract The Vicksburg Community School District is a K-12 district in south central Kalamazoo County. Our district serves over 2,600 throughout our one high school, one middle school and three elementary schools, employing approximately 175 teachers and 200 other employees to support the needs of our students. We encompass over 110 square miles of rural, suburban, and small town geography including the villages of Vicksburg and Fulton, and of eight townships. The District boasts fourteen lakes, which creates a unique style of suburban living. Our residents enjoy all the advantages of a small town with a major metropolitan area just a few miles north. The school district takes pride in being a high achieving district. Position Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as an Educational Supports and Intervention Coordinator. The Coordinator will be responsible for leadership, development, direction, and coordination of the special education programs and services at Vicksburg Community Schools (VCS) as part of the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency's (KRESA) Southern Service Area (SSA). Provide support to special education programs as defined in the responsibilities listed in this document. Fulfill other tasks as deemed necessary by the Educational Supports and Intervention (ESI) Supervisor to comply with IDEA, MARSE, and the rules and regulations of the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special Education (MDE-OSE). Responsibilities
  • Serve as special education representative on District Teams o Attend District Continuous Improvement Leadership Teams, including but not limited to: (DCILT) and District Continuous Improvement Team (DCIT) o Attend District Multi Tired Systems of Support (MTSS)Team meetings, including but not limited to: MTSS Leadership Team, MTSS Academic, MTSS Social Emotional Learning
  • Support to Building Level Teams related to MTSS Student assistance meetings (SAT/SIT) Attend parent/team meetings Attend monthly Building District Intervention Team meetings (Coordinating with MTSS Coordinators) Attend Building Leadership Team (BLT) meetings in buildings as directed by ESI Supervisor and in collaboration with Building Administrators Oversight and support to Educational Support & Intervention staff and students Meetings with teachers regarding caseloads and students Attend IEPs at teacher/admin request Coordinate all activities related to MI Access State Testing Facilitate and/or support development of student schedules Student observations Support count day Plan and help facilitate Itinerant and ESI Department meetings in conjunction with ESI Supervisor and ESI Department Chair Student Educational Benefits (EdBen) Help facilitate and/or set up meetings with MRS, MCTI, KTS, YCC, Project Search, Transition Coordinator, & WBL (Work Based Learning) Support and facilitate Change of Level meetings and activities Coordination of services and Technical Support with ESI Administrators Weekly meetings with supervisor Itinerant Team meetings with SSA Attend Psych Team Meetings SSA work- Medicaid billing, IEP Development, 1% cap, Caseloads, KRESA TC monitoring pulls, and keeping a pulse on district happenings Liaison between -- staff/supervisor, staff/administration, school psych/case managers, pathways/meetings, staff/case managers Facilitate case manager assignments, para assignments based on student schedules, connect with counselors Assume leadership positions within the district Assist in facilitating district professional learning Support Curriculum/PLC Work days, including Teach Town and other ESI specific curriculum or activities Organize and facilitate individual and/or group learning opportunities including KRESA Blueprint and CoHort activities.
Monitor and support the District professional learning and Attend and coordinate ESI PLCs
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Educational Supports and Intervention Supervisor and/or Director of Educational Supports and Intervention.

  • Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for with Special Education Endorsement or Related Service degree. Previous teacher leadership experience is preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Special Education, Administration or Related Services including all courses required to meet credential requirements.
  • Three years of successful experience in special education is required. Experience in educational support and intervention at both elementary and secondary levels is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with implementing effective instructional strategies and assessment driven decision-making.
  • Experience with multiple grade levels (K-12) and/or content area.
  • Experience delivering quality professional development
  • Basic understanding of MARSE and MDE-OSE.
  • Experience with transition planning and activities for students with IEP's at the high school level.
  • Ability to support he vision, mission and beliefs of Vicksburg Community Schools.
  • Ability to assume responsibility with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and constructive relationships.
  • Effective communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations.
  • Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for teachers and itinerant staff.
  • Demonstrated strength in organization and efficiency in planning for and meeting deadlines.
  • Must pass background checks and comply with state and district requirements for working with students and adhere to District and School polices, expectations and protocols. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move about the building and campus to assist students.
  • May require and employee to lift and/or move heavy object up to 25lbs.
  • A portion of the workday may be spent traveling between buildings and/or districts.
