Minnesota Director of Special Education license and valid teaching license in special education or related field At least three years of teaching and/or administrative experience to include supervisory experience Master's degree in special education instruction or related special education field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Principals, Special Education Lead, and Special Education staff, and the Director of Student Services and Assistant Director to ensure that all students assigned a special education program receive due process rights; interpret the school policies and programs for students, staff, parents, and keep the Director of Student Services informed as to problems and concerns. Collaborate with Principals, Special Education Lead, Special Education staff, and the Director of Student Services regarding development and implementation of special education and general education curriculum, instruction, and assessment and evidence based practices. Collaborate with Principals with the supervision and performance evaluation of licensed staff, paraprofessional and teacher assistants, unlicensed staff, and program support personnel. Supervision including staff training and professional learning systems; creating and maintaining system of various staff meetings; and communications Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and training new staff. Collect and maintain information for determination of staffing needs. Monitor Special Education Due Process procedures. Provide systems and training opportunities. Effectiveness with a systems approach that is blended and program specific Program development, implementation/sustainability. Systems approach/blended and program specific. Collect and maintain data for federal, state, district required Special Education Reports. Monitor budget expenditures for Special Education programs with the support and assistance of the directors, and accountants.
Provide leadership and direction re:
conflict resolution – staff, parents, students, agencies. Establish and monitor systems which assure application of entrance/exit criteria, program curriculum and due process for students with disabilities. Provide technical assistance in the development of appropriate assessment and the individual program planning for specific students with disabilities. Provide program evaluation, supervision of itinerant staff, and participate on special education administration team and district committees, and building support. Team closely (triage) with building on students/families in crisis situations and students/families with high profiles. Provide support, give input and coach on how to respond to parent, be aware of possible outside services. Coaching staff on due process functions while at the scheduled meeting (manifestations, evaluation summary, IEP meetings, etc.). Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Student Services.
