Reading Specialist (K-5)

Jaffrey Grade School is seeking a dynamic and engaging Reading Specialist to join our elementary team. We are a creative and forward-focused school with approximately 300 students ranging in age from 4-11 (PK-5th grade). This is the ideal position for a Reading Specialist who understands that every student can be successful, values working with young learners, wants to be part of a collaborative, student-centered team of caring educators, and is comfortable taking risks, being creative, and trying new things.

The primary function of the Reading Specialist is to support the Core ELA Instruction for all students.

Provide direct instruction in the areas of reading and writing for identified groups and individual students, with an emphasis on emergent, beginning, and transitional readers.

Conduct classroom visitations and provide feedback to teachers and administrators on the schools literacy instruction.

Assist teachers with the implementation of Common Core State Standards of ELA.Provide curriculum support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development that supports student learning.

Model and coach instructional methods in a variety of settings (whole group and small group/in and out of the classroom); provide follow-up support.

Select instructional materials and strategies to meet student needs.

Serve as a liaison between the school and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction by attending meetings and disseminating information.

Assist with the planning and delivery of parent workshops and informational sessions involving the language arts program.

Participate in parent conferences and provide instructional suggestions.

Remain grounded in learning progressions in order to facilitate integrated and concept-based instruction.

Facilitate staff in using data from multiple sources to inform instructional design.

Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum.

Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school literacy data and plan for future literacy needs.

Provide ongoing training and follow-up in the use of assessment tools.

Participate in collaborative instructional planning.

Assess students using a variety of measures to determine appropriate placement and specific instructional needs.

Organize and Manage Literacy Resources.

Maintain an organized system and accessible location for the storage and circulation of reading and writing materials.

Maintain a comprehensive inventory of instructional materials and resources.
