Job Description

Job Overview The Education & Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in connecting youth audiences to the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. This position is responsible for coordinating our diverse portfolio of educational programs—bridging the gap between the classroom and the concert hall. The ideal candidate is a proactive relationship-builder and an organized administrator who is passionate about music education and committed to increasing accessibility to the performing arts. Primary Responsibilities Partnership and Program Development Proactively develop and maintain relationships with schools and districts to maintain and expand the reach of our youth concert series and educational initiatives. Work with the Vice President, Education & Community Engagement to identify opportunities that enhance and expand access to BPO programming, driving attendance and engagement. Coordination of Youth Concerts Oversee all aspects of youth concert administration, including marketing, registrations, attendance tracking, invoicing, and payments. Lead concert-day preparation and front-of-house event management to ensure a seamless experience for attendees. Maintain education databases and financial systems. Utilize attendee feedback to continuously refine and improve systems. Community Engagement Program Operations Serve as the primary lead for the high school Symphony Hall Pass program, coordinating all events, promotions, and in-school recruitment visits while working to expand the program's reach. Manage Community Spotlight performance group reservations, technical requirements, ticketing, and volunteer coordination. Nurture and facilitate partnerships for the BPO Kids family series, curating engaging pre-concert activities that enhance the patron experience. Oversee the Masterclass series, from the strategic recruitment of student participants to managing all pre-event communications and providing end-to-end on-site event coordination. Teaching Artist Coordination Facilitate teaching artist visits and residencies, managing booking, communications, contracts, and invoicing. Act as a bridge between school staff and BPO musicians, assisting to tailor program offerings to meet specific classroom and curricular needs. Additional Responsibilities Serve as the primary record-keeper for the Education Committee by attending meetings, capturing accurate minutes, documenting key decisions, and tracking action items to ensure organizational accountability. Actively participate in All Staff meetings to stay aligned with organizational goals, contribute to team discussions, and assist in cross-departmental coordination. Perform other duties as assigned to support department objectives. Position Requirements Associates degree or higher is required Prior experience within a performing arts venue or with music, theater, or dance organizations preferred. Professional experience working in educational environments with students, educators, and administrators is strongly preferred. Familiarity with musical ensembles or performing arts organizations, with sensitivity to the unique dynamics of an orchestra is preferred. Valid NYS Driver License and access to reliable transportation for errands and/or offsite meetings. Strong verbal and written communication skills are mandatory. Must be comfortable and effective when presenting to both students and adults. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with database platforms. Exceptional customer service and the ability to maintain a positive, collaborative atmosphere while communicating with diverse constituencies. Must be able to work days, evenings and weekends to support concert and event programming.
Pay:
$19.23 - $21.63 per hour
